Garrison Keillor announces his retirement
« on: March 16, 2011, 10:59:39 PM »
The host of the long running live radio show "A Prairie Home Companion" announced that he will be retiring in 2013. At least we have a few more years of this national treasure from Minnesota. I have been listening since it started in 1974 and attended many of the broadcasts over the years.  I think one of my all time favorite shows and one I got to see live was his  Buddy Holley tribute that included the monologue Buddy Holley and the Pharaohs of Rhythm. Download it for a listen if you are not familiar with PHC, you won't be disappointed.

Anyone else have a favorite?  Maybe "Pastors on the Pontoon Boat". :D

Another favorite on More News from Lake Wobegon is "Homecoming" which centers around Carl Krebsbach and his daughter Carla. The story builds to a crazy showdown on a narrow, crowd-lined street between Carl, atop a tractor, and Carla, riding a borrowed Sherman tank in the homecoming parade.  The problems is Carl's tractor is hauling a hay wagon holding a '37 Chevy coupe that has just been unearthed after years of use as a septic tank and the wind is blowing in the wrong direction.  It was, Keillor says, the most memorable homecoming in the town's history. ;D

I'm torn.
I grew up listening to PHC, my Dad was on the show once, I met GK as a kid, so good memories.
But, a friend of mine has worked w/ Keillor and says he's a total prick.  Bosses around the sounds techs, acts like he's a really big deal and his **** don't stink.  So, that kind of tarnished my view of him.

'Course, that's why my wife says she never wants to met any of her favorite actors or rockers, better to keep the mental image you have than find out they are just another DB.
