Well, every time i sell a bike i have a chunk of money to spend. I always want to buy tools but usualy buy bikes because i can park them outside. I would really like an industrial sewing machine so I can do my own seats. But again I have no space for one.

 I would say a couple of window ac units for garage may be a good idea (or even one of the Mitsubishi units?)

WebCam has been providing timing cards with numbers that never seemed to be achieveable. I was told those #'s should be read at the lobe or some such... Not providing any numbers is not the answer.

I have the 58a cam and it should be "squared" so that intake opening & exhaust closing numbers were identical 24/51 & 51/24, again this for the 58a cam.  Maybe someone will provide the 58b info.

You should aim to match lobe centers.

Took the motor back apart to paint the cylinder. Started looking for my new head and cylinder gasket. I can not find them. I had them inside for safe keeping but this build has taken so long I dont know where they are. I know where i last saw them but i dont live alone so things get moved and thrown away.  :-[ Ill look around a little more but i have a feeling im gong to have to buy new head and base gasket. F

Never found my gaskets so i had to buy some more. Got the 2 from dynoman and a full set off ebay. The ebay set looks like its missing the rubber pucks but i have some from other incomplete sets i have. Anything i should know before asembly? Do you put anything on the gaskets? I was just going to put them on dry.

i just used the same brand as that,they didnt have pucks,you might apply a little hard setting sealant on the pointy bits on the head gasket where those 6mm bolts go through at the cam tunnel, other than that fit them dry.

That looks perfect to me!Maybe the photo's make it look more shiny. IMHO I would be more than happy with that result.

You'll probably have to re-polish by hand anyway before you finish. Are you going to lacquer?

Update, Frame is out for paint so its time to get moving on this one. Started putting the motor together today. I did eventually find my missing gaskets. They were right where i looked for them. I dont know how they just showed up. So i have an extra set to build another big bore.


here is how i put my head bolts on. What a pain to do it vertically.

Should i put a little locktite on these once i have it dialed in?

Well, that's a good enough endorsement for me...but I can't see any drawback in using a dab.

I like to make an 'infill' piece when the slots are that long.
There never seems to be enough surface area on bolt head so they 'creep' over time

Used a little bit of gasket maker to help seal the little pucks.



Then I put the cover on and sorted out all the stainless bolts. Looks nice right?


Except that i forgot that I need to use my cover that is cut open to dial in the cam!!!! Oh well. Ill take it back apart in a few days when i get home from work, dial in the cam, and then button the top back up. Then its on to the clutch and cover, oil pump, stator and cover, and....what ever else im forgetting. Oh oil pickup and pan.

On another note i finished a fork swap on XR600.

Well i got the cam degreed now ill swap the rockers back over to the actual cover and button it up. Final degree was 14* and 46* on intake and exhaust.

Got the clutch put together today and the points cover painted. Still need to do the oil pump and a few other things but its all coming together now.
