hey guys.  i have a quick dilemma i need help with!  i just retrofitted a 96 cbr 600 f3 rear wheel and disc brake set up on my 01 spirit 750.  i rebuild the caliper and master cylinder and added a stainless brake line.  the pads are quite a bit old, but they still look to be in testable condition.  

i've bled the crap out of the system, yet i can't seem to get it to do anything other than lightly drag the rotor.  when i press down on the brake lever, the entire caliper and brake mounting plate flexes with the movement of the piston, so i'm still a little bit clueless as to what would cause this.  please let me know asap!!!  i don't REALLY want to ride around with just my front brake, but i've done it before, so it's not THAT big of a deal...

oh ya.  i've looked all over the system for air leaks, and i cant seem to find any, i might try replacing the line from the master cylinder to the reservoir, but i don't know if that will fix anything...

oh ya, and if i need new pads, i'll probably need a new rotor since this one is in about the same condition, so here comes a new EBC wave rotor and pads!  :-D

I would pull the caliper and check to make sure that the pads are moving in and out like they are supposed to. Almost sounds like you have a stuck pad or something. Dual piston caliper?

problem solved!!!

turns out idiot me had the brake stay arm mounted to floating caliper mounting bolt that allows the caliper to actually press on the rotors.  so now i have to re-mount the brake stay arm, which should be more interesting that i'd like since the bracket is designed to work one way, and i'm trying to mount it another way, without drilling into my swingarm...

alright, as requested, here's some pics of my first motorcycle ever!  ;D  it's a 2001 Honda Shadow Spirit 750

i bought it like 6 years ago in December?  come to think of it, it came home on my mom's birthday, so she was a bit unhappy to say the least...  when i got it, the only thing it had done was a set of cobra drag pipes.  then came the hard tail struts.  then mods just came piling in as i found access to a machine shop and i learned how to weld.

i made the pipes, bars, struts and modded a steel fender.  the rear wheel and brake is from a 96 600 F3 with a 210.  the hypercharger has working butterflies, and it's pretty much tuned, although it's a PITA to tune that much intake and exhaust on this 750...  i'm in the process of taking out much of the chrome, and just going to be running multiple shades of black, with some red and gold accents in certain places.  i like to think of it as a bobber/pro street style.  well as i find more pics, i'll put them up.  let me know if y'all have any questions!!  the pictures are oldest to newest, and i need to take even more updated ones soon...

oh ya, the seat was tooled by a guy i know, all he wanted was some old parts, so i'd say it was a pretty good deal.  it's not currently on the bike, as my hips and butt are too wide for it, and it makes riding very sketchy, so i'm going to have it redone, but keep the same top piece.  the RTW is for "Ryan Timothy Wolk" who was one of my closest friends and died in a motorcycle accident 5 years ago.  the "nunquam subpono" is Latin for "Never Forgotten."  again, lets hear what you think!

lots of guys run a harley 21" up there, but i HATE that look!!!  i like to have a little meat on my front wheel, but not that fat front tire look...

i'm going to paint the wheel black to match the rear one.  my plan is to eliminate all the chrome and go with multiple shades of black with some red and gold highlights.  but i'll put some white exhaust wrap on the pipes, keep the bobber look.  hopefully i'll get this job and have some income to accomplish all my goals!!   ;D

does anyone have any good templates for making a springer seat?  i'm thinking about using a stop sign i have and cutting it out and shaping the springer seat pan.  i can't be riding much anymore fully hard tailed, it's just too hard on my insides...  i literally bruised a kidney once, according to my doc, after hitting a nasty section of crappy roads...

i took the springer in the pics off cuz i have some wide hips, and that seat is too narrow and too flat in the back to really make me feel confident in the saddle.  if i remake the seat, i'll use the same tooled top piece with another wide, deeper curved seat pan...  i might try to just bend the back of that seat pan and see if it will help re-inspire the confidence the stock seat gives me, but that's for after the semester is over...

so any thoughts or drawings of successful seat pans for a springer seat?

thanks for the compliment!  ya, the pipes are badass, i think when i get everything blacked out i'm either going to chrome them, or more likely, wrap them in white exhaust wrap, and help complete the bobber/pro street look. 

one tuning question.  i know i have plenty of intake and exhaust on this beast, but i still have some slight surging at constant throttle, like when i'm cruising anywhere between 30-65 in a higher gear.  should i raise the needle or go up a jet size?  on the highway it's kind of choked up higher up in the rpm's, so i don't know.  i'm very good with taking the carbs on and off, but it doesn't mean i enjoy it    8)  either way, input is appreciated!

ok, well here's my most recent updates, as in today!

i put a new sid emount license plate on, because just tucking it under the tank was getting old!  and i threw some 12" apes with a set of Honda ACE risers on there.  i love the way it looks!!  and here's some fun shots of it in the garage where i'm playing with the lighting...  gotta love 10-15 second exposures and a flashlight!!!

Great looking bike!! Gotta love them Shadows! I did this '83 750 last year. Rode with hardtail struts for a few months and had enough. Put the shocks back on shortly after.

Check this bike out I've been seeing on CL here lately in NC, looks pretty badass. I bet they have hardly nothing  in it. Also check out the Suzuki C50 in the background, pretty cool.

i would have never ever considered a japanese vtwin cruiser before seeing these pics. now i would really like to have one and do a build similar to these. maybe after the 72 suzuki titan and the 66 harley sprint racer clone.

you can get the spirits for cheap!  i picked up mine for 4K, and that was 5 years ago.  you can find others with higher mileage for 2K or so...  they're awesome little bikes!!!

so i think i'm getting tired of the hard tail.  looks badass, but i think i'd like to have a more fun bike!  always wanted a street tracker, and a v-twin one would be cool!!  especially since you don't see many metric twins done up like this these days!! 

a guy at Cobra made up this one from a newer C2, so it's good for inspiration, but i have my own ideas!  racetech front end (maybe see about swapping to a 600f3 for twin discs, ikon rear, tracker pipes on the right side, rearsets, dirt tracker tail, superbike bars, either excel spokes (18's or 19's front and rear) or keep the 600f3 6-spokes.  narrow the tank, maybe dent the sides, smooth the speedo and throw a digital all-in-one gauge on the bars!
