What do you use more?
« on: April 09, 2006, 03:54:32 PM »
I'd say I use the centerstand 90% of the time, only using the sidestand for short stops.  I keep feeling that the bike will fall over on the sidestand and I don't really trust it.

How do you guys park it?

Usually side unless working on it.   But always check environment.  If it feels better on the center thats where it goes.

I use centerstand at home, and mostly sidestand while out and about.

Strictly the centerstand.

OK, I cut the sidestand off to fit the new pipes.  Riding a Hondamatic creates some issues. ???

Well, Rita doesn't have a center so its what I'm left with. Kinda difficult to work on the bike but you know what they say about sacrifices.

Always the centre stand on my 500

Always the side stand on my VFR (I don't actually know which bit of plastic I can pull on to get it up onto the centre stand (!))

Center stand is a pain! I only use it to work on the bike or if the ground is too soft to use the sidestand. probably going to do the same as proteal.

On the level, concrete garage floor, the kickstand. Most other places, the center stand as the bike seems to lean quite a bit and most of the streets near me are asphalt.

I would use my side stand more except that the rubber end is long since gone. And I KNOW the angle of the side stand is too much so I need to replace it.

Well, I'm just a bloody poser...My bike turns heads wherever I go, that's just the way it is boys. I'm proud and make no excuses for that.

Centrestand...When I want to show her lines off to the best advantage.

Sidestand......When I slot it in between a whole lot of HD's and modern sportsbikes on their sidestands and I don't want to show off too much, just fit in with the crowd and quietly shame them ha ha    ;D

Maybe I need therapy??

centre stand... put the bike on its side stand on day, on a 40 degree celcius(for you americans out there ;D) ad went into the shop, came out and the thing was nearly on its side, sank into the tar!!!! so centre stand mainly, if on cement then i may use the side satnd for short periods, but  the centre stand is the go... plus everyone can see both sides when you have it on the centre stand.. ;D...peace

Sidestand always. Only use the center stand when working on it. If it were strictly my bike, I would have removed it already, but since the wife rides it more than me, not to concerned about weight/performance, at least for now. Plus, it is a pain in the ass getting it on the center stand. I saw a couple posts right after I got this thing by people looking for a rear grab bar and I couldn't figure out why. Now I know. LOL

Sidestand except when working on the bike.  My new bike doesn't have a centerstand and not even a place to fit one.  I bought a "race" stand and Scott oiler the first week I had it.

I did think of another reason to have a center stand. You can take a nap on your bike much easier with a center. Course a padded sissy bar helps too!  ;D  Just lean back against the bar and prop feet up on the handlebars.

Ditto on Adam's post.  I like the fact that I can lighten my bike by removing the center stand, but that would hurt serviceability.

generally i use my sidestand; at home and whilst i'm out. But theres a reason: i had to remove my grab bar to install my shoei bags and my luggage rack! so i guess i'll try that passenger peg thing i heard about...

after all it is only a 350f, so its not like i'm lifting a whole lot of weight here..

cheers, will

How do you use the grab bar when using the center-stand?  I have a 400F with no grab bar and I just use my foot to set the stand on the ground and then, with both hands on the handlebars, pull the bike back really hard levering it up onto the stand.

How do you use the grab bar when using the center-stand?

Left hand on left handlebar.
Right hand on grab bar.
Step on centerstand lever while lifting with right hand at the same time.
The left hand on the handlebar is really just to help steady the bike and doesn't actually do any lifting or pulling.

At least that's the technique I've always used, and it's worked on everything from my 350 up to the 750.  My 750 doesn't have a grab bar either, so I just grab the frame rail under the seat.

I think thats the way that the majority of the population puts their bikes on the center stand. Some bikes even come with retractable handles just for putting the bike on the stand. (like my moms bmw triple). The only bike ive ever been able to put on the center stand just by pulling back on the handlebar is my 63 honda 50; but then again i'm no weight lifter either so...

cheers; will

It just seems that by using the grab bar, you're dead-lifting the bike, while the pulling rearward technique uses the centerstand as a lever and the bike does the work itself.

I tried that on my little 400 and said "F THAT NOISE!"  It felt like I was trying to lift the entire damn 390 pounds of that thing with my right hand alone!
