I was confused when I found a spin on filter on ePay that didn't need an adapter.

They're back!

Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't know, but they are available here, about seventh item in : http://www.cb750supply.com/products

I have one in a box from 30 years ago that I was afraid to use. They were as common as milk and eggs once.

What's cool about those is that they include the adapter. Once you buy one, you can use the adapter on other spin-on oil filters you might want to use.

I found this thread. Don't know if Terry's adapters are different size/thread/pitch. I doubt it!

I bought the adapter from Randakk's and I love it, looks good and uses common oil filters from your auto supply store.

I have a spin on adapter from Terry and a Chrome oil filter. His adapters are good quality, I'm glad I bought mine.

I also have one from Terry but only found one filter that fits it (Wix 51390). My adaptor plate is one of Terry's newer versions that accepts the stock cartridge fiter & housing or a spin-on. The Wix 51390 is not very common so I can't just go down to Kragens or Wallyworld to get one. This filter fits early 70's Honda cars and some kinda tractor. Beings that this chrome filter with adaptor is so cheap ($16), I will install it on my daily rider for now and take my Terry adaptor to an auto parts store to find a more common filter that will work.

My '02 Harley has a spin-on chrome oil filter that is about the same size as the finned filter cover on a Honda-4. It never occurred to me to measure on and see if it's diameter (at the seal) might work. This is on a "Twin Cam" but the '05 Sportster uses the same filter on its "Evo(loution)" engine, only in black. Sure would be nice if a Harley filter would work, they are easy to find.

Now that I have ordered this filter w/ adaptor.........I'll just wait till it arrives and then I'll change my oil which I was gonna do anyways for the rally. Then I could take Terry's plate down and see what else might fit it.

When my filter gets here....I will measure Terry's and see if the HD would fit but the ones I've seen are a bit smaller diameter and maybe even a little longer. The longer doesn't bother me cause there is room between my header pipes but the diameter could be a problem. I've heard that the HD chrome filters are common and not too pricey.

I don't understand Moon says it does not need a adapter? Silverback says it comes with one? All I see is a filter no adapter like the one on Randakks site. I would like to get the adapter so does the one on 750 supply come with one or not?

I just went back and looked.......its there. Its the threaded pipe sticking out of the filter. The filter itself is female.

No adapter necessary. Sorry, Terry, they're back.

I got mine from eBay, just positive it can't work without an adapter.

Then I found this while looking for something else:

I do not know but to figure it out go to motogrid and do a cross reference on you bolt and see if they are the same or post your bolt spec. here I will go look up my 750K8. Then let's see what the diameter of the oring on the filter is the only thing left is pipe clearence

I just cross ref. my 750K8 bolt at powersports there are 4 or 5 550s ( 76-77-78) K&F listed as the same no one has said what year. My large oring is about 92mm. but the spin on has a flat gasket so that may give you some wiggle room. keep digging and you may figure this out.

Indeed, the adapter is removable.
It fit into a PH8A I had so it should fit in any other filter that is the correct diameter for a CB750.
The shiny chrome filter contrasts nicely with deep blue chrome of my abused Kerker headers that I reinstalled today.

Since the adapter Randak sells says it fits 750s, 500s, and 550's I assume these chrome filters would fit the same.

Ha ha, I've had a box full of those big crappy chrome spin on filters and have used them on and off for years, I put one on, it leaks, I take it off and replace it with a better "brand name" filter, then a year or two later I forget and put another one on, it leaks, I take it off, and so on and so forth. If you can get one that doesn't leak, use it by all means! Cheers, Terry.

Next time you use one put a little clean oil around the o-ring and and try not to over-tighten the filter....
That should help.
