Where to get a complete sentence question on tires?
« on: April 08, 2011, 11:37:40 AM »
Hey, how do you like my combining 2  subjects in one sentence?
 ;D

Seems Dennis Kirk does not carry a good tire for my 1976 cb550.

ANy suggestions? (incomplete sentence , I know.)

peace,
michel

My favorite tire-buying trick these days is to go to ebay and type in the size you want in the search bar.  Like, "3.50-18 tire"  Then, sort by "least expensive" and scroll past the section of innertubes.

You'll get all the hits you need.  Pick yer poison...

The nice thing about that, is you'll get the correctly sized tire for your vintage sizing nomenclature.

I do the same thing, but order it by Highest, Price plus shipping, first.  I skip past the idiotically high priced tires and then settle down and see what a good quality tire will cost me - keeping in mind that it now costs me another $22 to have it mounted and balanced, and of course a new rim strip and tube if required.

www.motorcyclesuperstore.com  I bought a pair of Shinko 712s there for about $110.  Tires, tubes and rim strips shipped. Orders over $90 get free shipping.

Front 100/90-19
Rear 110/90-18

They work great on my 500.

I was able to type 120/90 R18 into Google and find suppliers.

If you only have the inch based size information Google will also come up with suppliers for X.XX x XX nomenclature.

Several sites have conversion charts to allow you to identify modern tires.

I just bought tires from this guy last week. I told him about my project (HD front wheel that is actually a rear, and a Ducati rear wheel) He responded with about 5 different choices for me, all with his personal opinions and input. Great guy, and his prices were better than what I was finding anywhere else.
