Odd running issue - 550F
« on: April 08, 2011, 03:48:35 PM »
Bike starts up, idles and runs fine 'till approx 30 min running time, then won't pull over 5K. But still starts up and runs normal.
All stock except for Dyna ignition- thinking this is the issue when it gets hot.
Carbs have been cleaned twice, has new filter, plugs and caps.
Have you seen/heard this? What should I check next??

If you still have the parts to run points, I would start there.  Pull out the Dyna and see what happens with the points ignition.  If the problem goes away, the issue is identified...  not really sure what else it would be though. :-\

Was that a new air filter?  Paper?
Have you done a test run without the air filter?
Are you sure the you are operating the choke correctly and not backwards?  Up-on, down-off?

Have you done the rest of the tune up check list?

Didi the carb clean include the main emulsion tube?

Are the carbs settings stock?

What kind of deposits are on the spark plugs?

When the problem occurs, have you checked the head pipes temps to see if all the cylinders are still firing equally?

Does reserve help?
Is the gas cap venting properly?

Cheers,

TT...

Yes, new paper filter. Have not tried running it w/o it.
Yes, using choke properly, it won't cold start w/o it.
Yes, did complete tune up, cleaned tubes in carbs and settings are stock.
Reserve does not help and tried running w/gas cap loose.
Will check plugs tomorrow, and check head pipe temps too.
Plan to try running with points back in it.

Thanks.
