Using the CB500 triple tree increases the trail for better high-speed stability. For roadracing, nimbleness was then improved by using the 18" front wheel to reduce unsprung weight, gyroscopic effect, and reduce the increased trail a little bit.
Stock CB750 trail is 3.75". I think I remember the trail being 4.1" with the 500 trees and 19" wheel, slightly less with the 18" wheel.
