Updates to my 73 CB750
« on: April 26, 2011, 12:26:11 PM »
Started with this:

Got to this:

Ended up here. Latest additions-Front fender, Hyde 'M' bars, Tarrozzi rearsets, custom sidecovers, stainless braided brake lines, pods, rejetting tune up. The only thing I really want to do is have white faces on my speedo & tach but I really don't want to take them a part myself. Plus I would need to find the faces:

I got the sidecovers from Alan F. here on the board. Very cool.

Nice! How do you like those bars? I have tried three sets of clubmans and none of them fit on the bike like they should. Thinking of going with the M bars or just going with clip-ons.

Taking the gauges apart is not as hard as you think. I would not cut the ring to take them apart as others suggest. It just looks botchy when you glue them back on. If you gently pry the part of the retaining ring that is usually covered (facing towards the front of the bike), you can bend it back in place and will never be able to tell that you have been into them.

Silverback-I love the bars. With the seat, bars & rearsets, I finally have the bike fitting me perfect now for comfort and performance. I hear ya about the gauges, but I'd still like to pay someone else to do it. I really hate messing with sh*t like that.

Very Cool.  Let's have some details on the side covers. Those look really nice on this bike over the stock covers. Can you share details on how they are made? or did you buy them and where?

Thanks great job

The sidecovers are made by Alan F. here on the board. He has a thread about them in the Services Offered section.
After I got the sidecovers from him, I designed the graphic and my vinyl guy made up the decal for me. In the meantime I was getting the holes drilled and mounting screen behind them. I also painted the mounting tabs black.

Check those serial numbers over on the frame and engine or post them, from the looks of the original version you may actually have a 1972. Did it by chance have an "extra" button on the bottom of left handle control.  Nice work on it.

Very nice bike man.  That is roughly what my '74 750 will look like once complete... minus the cafe seat.  That's even the stripe I plan to go with on the tank (maybe a tad wider though).  Can you post an overhead picture of the tank so I can see the width of the lines around the gas cap?  Thanks.

Was about to say the same thing. Either the tank and side covers aren't original, or that's a '72.

It doesn't have an extra button, just the horn button. On the vin tag: 7/72   #2054334.

I just sold this bike which was also titled as a 73 but had 11/72 on the vin tag. And it was a little different than this one I cafe'd but I can't remember all the little differences the stock seat & hb's came with it when it was sold:

Yes your current bike is a 1972,probably sold in and titled as a 73. The other nice Flake Orange you sold was correct as a 73. Here is a time line, always good to check engine #'s also as a lot of swapping has gone on over the years.   http://www.hondachopper.com/engine/engine_timeline/timeline.html
