Need help identifying these rims
« on: April 16, 2006, 11:21:56 AM »
got these in a lot of parts yesterday. Front is 19", rear is 18". Rims are aluminum. Look to be of same type as the OEM on my cb750.

No markings that I could see. They are oxidized and will need to be polished. Just wondering if they are any thing special......

Looks close to mine. They came off of a 76 Hondamatic. Mine are a little cleaner though...............bike they came off of only had 9k....and the back is a 17".

If they are D.I.D.s they should be marked like this...........

more pics here............

Flanged rim is Borranni pattern, made in Italy or Spain originally. Were pretty cheap back inthe day but unobtainium now. Even the copies are damn expensive ($150+)
Clean em up

I concur, looks like Borrani. The shouldered Excels are a close copy.

Real Borrani rims are stamped on one outer flange ie "MADE IN ITALY BORRANI WM2 18"; there were other makes with decals that could be removed like the DID decal pictured above.

The plot thickens. After looking, cleaning, looking some more I found 6b21 and 2.15x18 which I am sure backs up the size but also "Takasago Japan" stamped between the spokes. I also found what looks like the Yamaha emblem on the insde of the hub.

Yep. XS 650.

I thought that sprocket was small for a CB 750.

My aged memory is telling me that Yam had only 36 spokes where Honda had 40 but dont quote me
