Where does the CB650 throttle cable attach at the carb?
« on: April 15, 2006, 10:42:47 AM »
I friend of mine just bought a 1980 CB650SC. The throttle was sticking so we decided to take the throttle cables off and lube them, checking the usual suspects as we went. I didn't take off the lower cable at the carb, and now I can't see where it attaches to put it back on. It looks like a pain...Does anyone know if I'll need to loosen\remove the airbox or loosen the carbs to get to it?

The manual is on it's way, but I'd like to get it together in the meanwhile.

Thanks in advance!

its a pain even with the carbs off. get an extra long bent needle nose pliers. the cheap made in china will do, dont need anything that could damage the cable

I always remove my throttle and choke cables with the carbs still on the bike.  Hell I've adjusted them with the tank still on but just propped up.

My suggestion: learn how to see with your fingers.  visualize what you feel and imagine it and its alot easier then relying on the eyes. small hands help as well.

Here are a few pictures that might help.
I have the rest of the chapter in .jpg if you want me to send them to you.
Why worry about tomorrow for tomorrow has enough troubles of it's own.

Thanks guys - I didn't take the bottom one off, so I didn't see where it came from. I've done my CB550 more times than I care to remember and I'm sitting here scratching my head because the CB650 is ... well ... different.

I have the Clymer manual tonight, so I'll give this a shot tomorrow. Crazypj, I guess I have a good reason to go buy another tool  ;D Funny, I grew up with my dads tools - he had EVERYTHING. Now I approach a problem and visualize which tool I need, then start cursing because I realize that I'm visualizing some tool that my dad has, 2000 miles away.

You dont need a special tool.   The bottom cable goes underneath the same "disk" that the top cable goes too. Down under the bottom and more than halfway up the back and there is a hook.
The "fingers" of the hook are very long.   Have fun.

Also heres the steps I go through.    Assemble the cables and throttle at handlebar.   Rout cables so they leave extra length.   Hook cable ends in the hooks on the disk then slip adjusters in brackets.
