Project "1974" CB750 Four K4
« on: May 19, 2011, 04:59:23 PM »
Here is the legend... At least for me. The only issues so far beside everything is the wiring and the carburetors. The bike was made in Japan and it has that Starter Safety Unit that is impossible to find. I'm just going to bypass it by using the regular Starter Diode from a 1978 model. I will be posting pictures during the rebuild. The engine is in good condition but the carburetors are gone with the wind. That's my first task, the carbs. They were gummed up and I needed to order a repair kit because the jets and the needles were completely cover in oil gum and debris from been exposed to the elements.

Today was a great day. I started the bike and is incredible how that engine sounds. It is the first time that the engine has been started since November 1990. The starter safety unit works so I kept the integrity of the bike. Now comes the fun part, restoration. I needed to be creative because all the switch control are completely corroded. My next step is to find the brake lines and the break pads. I need some ideas for color, but remember that I want to keep it original as well.

Not a bad start! Getting it running is always a good thing. I just recently picked up a '75 550K, where in OK are you located?

Lawton. I'm station here at Fort Sill. Been here for two years and I'm not going to lie, I'm from a big city, Tampa, Florida and been here has been a blessing. It's pretty quite and pleasant. I don't like traffic and I love the country roads.

JRviper5, good luck on your restoration.  I am also restoring a 75 750 that looks like the same color as your, Planet Blue Metallic.  If you are going to repaint to the same color and find where you can get the paint or color codes (dondirtbiker is hard to get a hold of) please let me know since I haven't any luck yet finding them. Thanks
Mark

Will do... Also, I'm looking for the Oil Tank cover. I saw one on Ebay but the guy was asking to much for it and it has undone fiber glass all over....

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Cool, I'm in Tulsa, when you get it done we could get together to ride. There's a guy locally I know that has a KZ1000 cafe racer, we could go Ton Up on some back roads!  8)
