Hey all!
I'm considering one of these for the shelf as my 750k6 is fine as is. Just wondering once installed, from then on where do you get a 836 sized head gasket if needed  or rings? Are these rings specific to these pistons? I know in the 2 stroke world you have to be very careful with rings & pistons from different manufacturers (poss. the lands are different) I don't want to buy 2 kits!
Maybe leave my original cyls stock, instead bore out a spare cylinder set from epaY?

Bert ...I cannot resist your avatar any longer :'(

He also lists head gaskets and rings separately...very cheap.

Good lord, here they are again! I'm trying to get a combined shipping to the Netherlands, if he agrees, I'm in! So excited; my new engine rebuild is really coming together nicely!

Shipping was a heck of a lot quicker than I expected it to be...got to my door yesterday, but I missed the mailman so I picked up the package at lunch today. I honestly wasn't expecting it for another couple of weeks...Shipping from Japan to me here in Winnipeg was a week.

Anyway, packaging was great...Seller did a really good job there. I'm on my lunch now, so I quickly unpacked them and weighed each piston...each one came in at 175 grams...I measured one piston with pin, clip, and rings and it came in at 230 grams.

*I should mention that my scale DOES NOT measure a tenth or hundredth of a gram...I'll get them on a proper scale for that...I was just curious as to what the approximate weight was *
Does anyone have the weights of other 836 kits? Just curious to compare...

I have some pictures that I can post if anyone wants to see them.

Here are some pictures...I didn't have time to actually look at them closely, as I was rushed over lunch.

But I could probably take some more detailed pics later on if someone needs.

Thanks for the testimonial...Any other changes to the 400f other than the 466 kit? Notice any big power improvements? I'm thinking about ordering a set right now as well and just putting them on the shelf until I rebuild my 400f engine.

I've got the 466 kit in my bike as well, and am also running a mild Webcam.  while I really have nothing to compare it to since I didn't really ride the bike before the install, I will say that I'm totally pleased and impressed with the power now.  I'm sure that making improvements in the breathing (headers, oversized valves, boring carbs, etc) would also go a long way toward taking advantage of the extra displacement, but I'm happy with what I've got at the moment.

Do those pistons have the micro-grooved skirt finish on them? They did not when I last bought a set of them.

Good question...I hadn't actually thought to look. I cracked open the box and took another more detailed pic for you. There is a micro-grooved finish on the skirt...I understand this provides better lubrication and better wear resistance..?

I would like to see a pic or two of the underside of the piston. They look very nice, BTW.

It's my impression that they are stock compression...

I agree though, a higher compression piston would be nice.

They look like nice pistons regardless of the lower compression...

Yep, those have micro-grooves. Very nice! Make sure your machine shop sets the clearance between 0.0008" and 0.0012" when you use those, as the grooves will break in and add up to 0.0004" more on the skirts. Too much clearance invites poor skirt-to-oil-to-bore contact, and these pistons can then get too hot. With cast forged pistons, like the Wiseco, they are different alloys and need more clearance (0.0020") for other reasons, so don't confuse these with those.

Remember, too, that increasing the bore size while retaining the stock chamber size also raises the compression ratio quite a bit. These should work out at between 9.25:1 and 9.4:1, depending on whether you add a quench band to the head or not.

Hey Scott,

Can you recommend a shop here locally when I'm ready to do the rebuild?

I installed a set on a gently-used bike last year. I think it has about 500 miles on it now. Be sure to use the clearance of 0.0010" to 0.0012" wit those pistons, as they do not have the micro-groove skirts like some 836 kits.

If nothing else is done but boring and installing these type of 836 pistons, the typical HP increase is about 8. If you follow all the steps in my book, like valve work, port work, quench band, spark curve change, and final carb tuning with stock airbox (NOT pods), you can get 12 HP from the installation. If you also add a mild cam like the K0 cam, this can add 2 HP more to that figure. If you go much further than that, like a Webcam 41 or something, you might wish to consider stronger rods as you nudge toward 80 HP. MRieck can install larger intake valves for you, too, which can push it to a 90 HP and require that you think about something other than a stock spoked rear wheel.  ;)

If i find a cam,how can i be sure it's from a K0?

I purchased his carb rebuild kits.  They worked out great and a set of 4 were $44.

I would order from him again.

That's good to hear, because I am in the process of installing a set of carb rebuild kits from this seller in my 350F right now, but the jets in the kit that I got were not marked with size, so I was a little apprehensive about installing them. They appear to be the right size, but I dont have any way to measure for certain.
