Hello from a new Hondamatic owner!
« on: June 07, 2011, 12:19:03 PM »
Hello everybody!  I am new to this forum!  I just bought a 1978 CB750A Hondamatic with about 15k miles.  very clean (overall).  Had to replace the ignition switch, clean (read purge) front brakes, oil rear brake (near the parking brake assembly).  Still need to get in the airbox (not looking forward to that) and clean or replace the filter.  Also need to change the oil and oil filter.  Bike runs great!  All my biker friends are amazed by no clutch!

Here are a couple pics:

Nice bike.

I also have a 78.

Getting the air cleaner out is not hard.  Two bolts on top of the air cleaner - just loosen them.  The bottom half of the air cleaner housing can then drop down, then out to the left.

FYI.  I've read (on this site) about the non-Honda air filters being sold on ebay (and other sources, too, I suppose) that are too restrictive, causing carb/fueling problems.  I bought a K&N, and it works fine.
1978 CB750A (upgrading very, very slowly)

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.

You bet. The Hondamatics were meant for just that! That's why they have the higher capacity battery and charging system, as well as a more mellow tuning setup.

That's awesome! I found my tool kit in the old Vetter fairing that came with the bike, as I was prepping it to sell!

Cool Stug, they are a nice ride. What you need to do next is, take it to your local drag strip and see if you can beat my 18.25 second 75mph run. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D enjoy it as it is. ;)

You win....for speed!  At my tender old age (46) I prefer going the posted speeds with only some exceptions!  I did find the bike is very comfortable going over said limits so I will need to watch that! ;)

This bike is a great ride!  It is cold blooded and I know I will need to tune her up.  Once she is warmed though, she just goes and goes.  When the season is over....or early spring, I am going to have a friend help me with the tune-up.
