Hey,

It has been a intresting weekend thus far.

1. Spend pretty much all day finishing up brake lines on dual-disc setup, just to find out I have one wrong fitting. Have to make 5th trip to ship to get right part.
2. Some spinless #$%* decides to bust the sideview mirror off my truck (Ford Excursion). I am hopin it was a accident/driveby, but I think someone did it on purpose. I WILL FIND THEM !
3. Go to bleed new brake system today, and find out my given to me Buell master cyllinder is pushing more air than fluid , and is junk !

So , I am in the market for a NEW 5/8 bore master cyllinder that will fit 7/8 bars. I am NOT buying some crap on Ebay, just to get all excited and have it not work. I would rather spend the cash and buy a NEW one , that I know will work as it should.
The main question is, what store/online/shop has the best deal on a master that will work for my dual-dics setup ? Needs to have a built-in brake switch, and black in color (if possibile). Maybe a new one from a dirtbike I can order from Honda ? Maybe some no-name unit from the net that will work ?

I am calling it a day, as my bed looks to be the only safe place for me at the momment.... ::)

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
Are you sure you just haven't succeeded in bleeding those brakes mate? bleeding a duel set up is a real pain, my patented "suck it and see" method, although dangerous to your health, works well, and unless you've got brake fluid leaking out of the piston seal and down your brake lever, there's probably nothing wrong with your MC. If it is "clagged", I like that gold one, it looks cool, much like the Suzuki GSXR1000 item I bought on Ebay a year ago for 25 bucks! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

I did EVERYTHING to bleed that friggin system, both this past saturday and sunday  ::)
I even had a "mighty vac" on there, pulling some major vaccum, and still nothing.
We (Race car buddies) removed the master, and the fluid was pumping full bore. I really believe that the pistion in the master was letting air into the system, becasue after 1000 or so pumps, no fluid was moving, the fluid in the res. was not going down, etc. There was also a trace of brake fluid leaking from the master, (now that I think of it). This lead me to believe the free master cyllinder, that sat dry in my toolbox for about a year, was no good. In a fit of Italian rage the master in question went for a "trip" down the street, and lies in about 3 pieces at the momment, in my garbage can  ;D

Thanks Chris. I sent them an email, we will see what they come back with.
At this point, all I want to do is rid the damn thing. 1/2 tank of Diesel (44 Gallon tank) cost me $85 bucks yesterday..... :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

It maybe alot cheaper to just get a rebuild kit for that master.  The seals are probably shot if you think its pulling in alot of air.  But as with HD/Buell it will probably be cheaper to just buy something new.

Hey Pro Teal,
I had the same dilemma, ended up wasting about $40 on a used GL master before a rebuild kit. I bailed out on the idea and bought a new
5/8 IN NISSIN from speedwerks.com 129.00, and you can choose your color. I do not have it hooked up, but it feels and looks NICE....
(It is the same unit as in the other link for $158)  I had no issues with speedwerks...
I think you get free shipping @ 150.00 and shipping was $12, so I bought a clutch tool for 19.00 and the shipped it free...
Also, the ONLY way to bleed them I have found is from the bottom up SLOWLY with a small hand fluid pump I got @ autozone. the air "floats" right out (being a vertical system)
I suck the excess out of the resevoir with a turkey baster.

Thanks Chippy !
Just ordered one from Speedwerks , Black/Black 5/8 bore for $129.99, plus a Icon hat to get free Shipping  ;D Thanks for the link, it is appreciated....

I hear what you are saying about the mighty vac. We had one on the system yesterday, and it was working like a champ. When we pulled the old crappy/broke/piece of #$%* master off, we took the banjo that WAS on the master, and stuck it in a bottle of brake fluid, cracked one of the bleeders on the caliper, and started pumping. After about three pumps, we were seein solid fluid, thus no air.
Did this back and forth, from caliper to caliper a few times, and called it a day..

Once I get the new master, I will just need to bench bleed it, and install. The lines are full of fluid, I am sure of that.

What a friggin #$%* this was / has been !

That's ok Duster. It was just like everything that COULD happen DID happen this past weekend. Is it sad that I am actually happy to be at work today ??

Wonder if my new Master has a brake-switch built into it ??

I have all stainless cables from Goodridge on the bike. My cost (discount) was almost $150 bucks in lines, fittings and such  :o This thing better stop on a dime when I am done.....

Just called Speedwerks to see about the brake switch. These masters, in fact DO NOT have a brake switch built into them  >:( I will say the guy on the phone was totally cool, and offered some different options, and offered to refund my order 100%. He said you can go with a hydro banjo fitting that hs a switch in it.

I am just not gonna worry about it, becasue every time I hit the front brakes, My foot is always hitting the rear as well, which will light the BrakeLight. One less switch to deal with - more crap off the bike - less weight - more speed - I am insane  ;D

Hey CHIPPYFIVE50, Are you aware that your new master has no brake-switch built into it ?
If you are still using the stock junction , you have no issues to deal with.

Hey Teal,
Mine DID INCLUDE  a nice quiet switch... i just; have to extend my wires. I did not order it special, so yours should have one too.
It is removeable with one philips head screw if you went with the stock switch though...

Good to know, maybe the guy is mistaken.
I will have to wait and see when I get it, along with my clip-on bars
which should be here tomorrow  ;D

not to at all get in the middle, but just food for thought.... if you've come to a complete stop (say at a traffic light) and you remove your foot from the brake pedal in order to put it on the ground, your brake light won't be lit any longer.

unfortunately i've known people who have been rear-ended while sitting on their bikes while sitting at a stop light. it's easy to argue that accidents happen, but i would urge you to do everything in your power to *lessen* the chance of having your bike folded in half.

VOLTHAUSE----->
I agree with ya 150% on the safety issue. That's why I am running a large L.E.D cateye style brake light above my plate, plus two bright-as-hell smaller lights which act as brake as well. I always make it a point to flash my brake-lights untill the person behind me has actually stopped.
I have been "bumped" from behind more than once, and learned my lesson to try and avoid it..
