What's a fair price for a 650 cam?
« on: June 12, 2011, 07:57:10 PM »
I have a '76 550k and am thinking of doing the 650 cam swap. I've got a friend with the cam, the tach drive gear and the 650 tach as well. Which from what i've read is all I should need right? If so what's a reasonable price that I should offer? He threw out $100 as a ballpark....

Just think of it as a savings bond in beer.  It will pay out eventually, and while the return isn't all that great at least it's guaranteed! ;D ;D

I've got two of the cams and one tach drive and one tach (you need a 650 tach too).  I paid $65 for one of the cams and I can't remember what I paid for the other but it was about the same and the 650 tach (could be in a lot better shape) came with it.  I bought the tach drive gear separately, it cost me $35.

So I'd say that your $100 price sounds about right.  Just make sure you mike the cam lobes (and inspect the journals) before you buy it.

Thanks for the input guys. Might try and go 3/4ths and say $75 bucks. I'm most likely not going to be doing the swap until probably this coming winter.
