Stripped Oil Filter Bolt Head CB350F

Was attempting to remove the center bolt from the oil filter housing and gave it a good crank with a 12mm socket wrench.  The bolt turned out to have the consistency of a soft cheese, and the hex is now pretty much a perfect circle. :'(  Went at it with vice grips to no avail.  I've read that it might work to use a hack saw to make a notch on the head to accommodate a flat head bit and hit it with a impact driver.  Anyone have experience with this, or any other solutions?  Thanks!

Try a small pipe wrench. Make sure the replacement bolt is the 14mm one.

See if you can hammer an 11mm on whats left. Works for me on those old buggered bolts.

I tried both of those and they didn't work. What got mine off was a cold chisel. The base of the nut is plenty thick to let the chisel get a purchase without damaging the filter housing.

I use a dremel to cut two flats on either side of the bolt, and then take it off with a monkey wrench.  I know others have had luck using punches/chisels, but I'm always worried about striking towards the engine with a chisel.  Even if you only hit the bolt head, you can possibly deform it and break the filter housing.

Whatever you choose, there are plenty of good ideas here.

dont buy a new bolt,if you have a bench grinder finish the stipped hex into a neat good enough circle to fit any steel nut you have at home,then get it welded onto the stump,we have a mig where i work so its too easy,if you can at least get the prep done and approach a body shop even they should be able to weld it on for a beer or two,this one ended up with a 19mm hex,only nip these up,most bolts on these bikes only need to be nipped up,they aint wheel nuts.

Well, I tried Camelman's suggestion and flattened the sides of the bolt head.  I went at it with a pipe wrench and then vice grips.  It didn't budge, so it's now a mangled nub.  Is my only option left to saw it off?  If I do that, how do I remove the remainder of the bolt?  Your help is much appreciated.

Once the head of the bolt is removed flush with the housing and the housing is removed the bolt will normally remove very easily.Its not the threads that are stuck but head of the bolt to the housing. Please try and hammer on any type of socket you can on that nub,metric or american and give it a go. The hammering may help loosen the bond and some heat won't hurt either.
