Greetings all!
I need some advice on a fuel tank petcock ('78 750F). A little background. The bike died on me the first time I attempted to ride it in to work (the boss came to my rescue - how embarrassingĀ

). It acted as though it were out of fuel but switching to "reserve" didn't help. I found that the tank was indeed low and that the "reserve" hole in the valve was blocked by a deteriorated rubber seal. I tried putting in an o-ring but it split. I tried no washer at all (just used teflon tape) but the valve, of course, leaked. I got it home and cut down a rubber washer to fit. That seemed to work - for a couple of weeks. When my reserve didn't work again the other day, I took it apart and the rubber washer again was smashed down into the hole.
I don't know if this is the original petcock. It doesn't have screws (like I've read about in other posts and in the Clymer's manual) but rivets holding it together. I can post pictures if needed.
What kind of seal should be in there? Would I be better off just replacing the whole valve? Is aftermarket better than stock?
