It's running!
« on: June 29, 2011, 02:21:07 PM »
I sprayed some carb cleaner in, closed the choke, hit the started...nothing. No surprise, let's try and kick it. BOOM! What? It's running! And it's idling at 1100!

Here's a video, sorry its sideways. So I think a valve clearance or two need to be adjusted, i think that's that rattling sound. Set timing and a carb sync. If anyone can suggest anything else after seeing the video let me know. I ran it around the block a couple times, mostly in 1st, got it to 2nd once. Just being careful. Here's the issues list

- Neutral light stays on, no big but i'd like it to work
- Smoke coming off the pipes, right under the oil filter (i think it's just spilled oil, the smoke looked bluish and seemed to stop after running a bit)
- I didn't have the airbox on, cuts out when I open the clutch after it was good and warm.
- Idle is rough

That's it for now. Thanks to everyone that helped me out.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Thanks, I'm sure a lot of people can relate. All the carb pulling and scraped knuckles were worth it. I know I have lots more work to do, but just riding it around the block after 2 and a half months of working on getting it to start (and never having worked on a bike before) makes me feel really good. Now to dial it in...and start looking for the next project (CB550?????)
