Anbody here do plating ? - Found One ?? I think 6/29
« on: June 20, 2011, 08:38:54 AM »
I'm going to do a stock restoration.   I don't really know of any reputable platers for the bolts and some smaller items.

Does anyone here plate bolts yet ?      Does anyone have a reputable shop that plates bolts etc. ?   I don't mind boxing them up and shipping.

Lemme know

edit  6/29    Found this guy on ebay.   Will do all your nuts and bolts for a single bike for $79 bucks...  seems like a great price.

Anybody tried him ?

Nobody ?    C'mon all you resto guys - who are you using to freshen up your bolts & shiny bits ?

Haven't had any luck in my area finding anyone that will touch 'em.

Eastwood sells a kit for re-plating bolts and stuff. Probably cheaper than shipping them off and you'll have it for the next time..

I use a local plater here in New York for nuts and bolts. You should be able to find someone in your area who can plate "bright zinc". Most platers do this by the pound. I also have the Eastwood home plating kit.  It works well, but is not as durable as professional plating. I use Paul's Chrome in Pennsylvania for chrome items.

Looks like there are about a dozen places in Garland and around the metroplex.  I don't have any direct experience with any of them, so I guess just calling around would be your best bet.  Hone that google-fu my friend!

Brownsplating, com in kentucky is the go to place for highest quality. Yes they do bolts individually. I had several tips of bolts and like the tip of the brake pedal spindle plated. They do everything in reconditioning the part, buff out scratches, casting marks, etc. Have to talk with Ron Brown. But check out the website, there is a price list online, but hold on to your ... whatever.

They like to make things shiny show quality, but if you want to dumb it down to production quality which many restorers do, they can do that too. They advertise in the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club magazine.

I about crapped my pants when I saw that swingarm.....talk about bike porn -

I've called about 15-20 places so far....I'll find somebody sooner or later.  Just hoping somebody here had the eastwood kit and actually liked using it.  ;)

Been thinking about one of those for a while now.  Any ideas as to why the Eastwood kit isn't as durable as a pro ?

Where do you find a local plater in NY?

Found a guy on ebay from Costs Mesa CA.   To be honest, I'm a little leary of sending off all the nuts & bolts to someone unfamiliar.  Just might have to do it.

I've been away for a while.

Here's the retail catalog. CB750 has its own page. Download and scroll down. They were never higher and often lower than the price in the catalog, and you get 10% off for mentioning their website. Still pricey.  They also did a lot of polishing to remove casting marks and warts that others would simply chrome over.  The swingarm was $215, Headlight ears $67.50 ea., etc.
