Adding fuel to the oil additive fire........
« on: July 29, 2011, 05:39:17 PM »
I added about a cup of Lucas engine oil stop leak to a recent SOHC 750 rebuild of mine.  The cam pucks were seeping and depositing fresh oil on the lower fins, left side, after the first few runs.  I was NOT looking forward to pulling the motor.  2 short rides and sitting a week and no leaks, none, nada.  Clutch feels normal, oil looks good.  I will run it a few more miles, drain, and add fresh oil.

Main base ingredient is paraffin.  (of which Quaker State and Pennzoil use the most).  Its a temp fix.  Fixing the leak, gasket, or seal would be the long term solution.
Come on!  We're burning daylight!

I would not be so sure about it being a temp fix. When I instruct people on rebuilding air brake pistons, we use Molykote gasket and O ring grease. It tells you right on the label to assemble quickly since it w cause the seals to swell quickly. Many additives cause gaskets to swell. Lucas may be doing the same thing.

I don't have any argumentative points. Just like to hear about the outcome of the experiment.
