Running without front turn signals
« on: May 03, 2006, 06:10:07 PM »
Im going to be running without front turn signals for a while, until i can find some smaller ones that i like.  Has anyone else done/does this?  I know there are plenty of people who ride bikes without turn signals at all.

Also, do i need to do anything special with the wires that run out of the signals?  Can i just leave them unattatched, or will this cause other electical problems?

This is on my 74 CB750

Any smaller aftermarket turn signal recomendations?

I'm running without fronts at the moment.  The connections in the headlight are covered so you can just leave them be.  Just remember to use hand signals :) AND PRAY

Thanks, I have some new plans for exhaust and paint.  going with either gloss or flat black.  bobbing the fenders abit and have some other long term plans.  The orange was/is pretty cool but it was for a different direction.  You know how it goes.

I've rarely run turn signals. Never had a problem, but I do stay away from the places that are heavy with cops looking to nail bikers. Around here, that pretty much means Angeles Crest Highway.

I've sometimes been a good boy and taped up the dangling wires, sometimes even labeled them in case I want to put the blinkers back on. (Which hasn't ever come up.)

Mostly, though, I've just let 'em flap, maybe tucked 'em up behind something else. No problems so far.

It's actually not required that you have turn signals here in VA.  So ill just have to be sure and use my hand signals when the 5-0 is near by.

And chris, i say go flat black, ive always been a fan of flat black.  Nice industrial type look.

i'm using small bullet style signals...forget who they're made by, but they're unobtrusive and look good.

I'd slap some signals on there just to be safe.  For some cheap mini signals -- look under the "chopper parts" here...http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/Index_Main_Frame.htm

They work great for me.  They're only a single filament, so you won't have front running lights -- if that matters.  I've got them mounted on some sheet metal brackets I made to mount the headlight.  You don't really notice them until they light up.

I removed my front turn signals, and kept the rear.
I rode awhile with the rear's not hooked up, and almost got myself killed.
I would say 95% of the stupid people driving in this world dont know what hand signals are,
or dont care to know. Unless they see something on that side of the bike blinking at them, they have NO CLUE you are gonna turn. Even then sometimes they dont see/care..

I plan to re-installing my front signals with something small, and re-hook up the rears. I would rather loose SOME style points and live, then have no signals on the bike and worry about getting rearended everytime I make a turn...

Have anymore pics of those singnals on your scoot ? What kinda/style bulb do they run ? I have been looking at those as a cheap/easy way to put signals back on my scoot...

I completely agree with that one. I had a guy think I was giving him the bird one time while I was signaling a right turn. Of course since my arm was already up when he came by me screaming, honking and waving more middle fingers out of his window than I thought a human could have, it made it very easy for me to return the favor.

I'm going to be hooking up some mini signals on my bike for safety and piece of mind...

Proteal -- look at the bottom of the first page of 'chopper parts' on that link.  There's a better picture there.

What are you supposed to do with hand signals at a 4-way stop?  I always wondered about that.  Seems like you signal...then drop your hand to work the clutch, put the bike in gear and go...and hope everybody was looking, paid attention and remembers which way you signaled.  I'd rather have the blinker going the whole time.

I agree 150% on that. Their is no way to "hold" the hand signal thru the action/turn.
Turnsignals are a good thing to have, for piece of mind atleast...

Where else...Ebay!  It's well made and actually pretty useful - it's got a good size storage compartment under the "hump" in the back.  It looks like you could hide the battery and all the electricals in there if you wanted.  I put my lunch in there this morning.   ;D

It says "Camber Racing" on the bottom.  Not sure if they're still in business.

That's the funniest thing I've read all day!

I use my signals all the time. I figure I'm already tempting fate enough just by riding, why take more chances? I just wish I could remember to cancel them all the time.  ::) Nothing says "cool" like cruising past some good looking girl with your signal flashing all the way down the street!  :D

Or, Riding past a car full of hot women, looking over to check them out and hit the suddenly stopped car in front of you. Didn't happen to me, but I know the person it did happen to  ;D
