What is the point of a bagger on a trailer anyway? Unless it's broke down...

Some of these guys are old and can't take the punishing miles but they are still riding albiet not as much. Others have their reasons. We have some serious riders on SOHC4 but I'd venture to say that less than 10% have ever done more than 250 miles at a time or ever been to any kind of rally. Why not rag on our guys that don't ride much except around or close to town? Considering I do long rides and considering I have followed our riders' habits since my inception of the Relay and considering I ride a Harley which is more dependable than my Honda I feel I have a little insight into this. What about you guys?

Naw, it's a 2003 with almost 40,000 miles mostly from touring all the western US in addition to BC, AB and SK. Latest adventure was 5552 miles from Colorado to Key West and back this past October. Usually take an extended trip once each year. It's been a great bike. Not the first problem. Change the oil, tires and spark plugs. Guess it's newish compared to our bikes.

I am guessin I will be doing between 400-500 miles this sunday running the G to Canada. I have something like 70 miles to the ND/SD border, then about 250ish to the canadian border, and another 100 back. these are estimates as I have not done exact mileage.
So, how is that jerry ;D

There are some Harleys on trailers, but I see far more on the road.  I do a fair amount of long distance riding myself all over the west and by far the majority of riders I see doing real miles are on Harleys.  It has been that way for years.

I get passed by Harleys all the time on the stock 750, its getting tired..
When I rode to  Bub in 09 there were lots of baggers and most of them are not riding slow.. a lot of sorta stripped down ones..

There is a lot of really quick Harleys here, got a buddy he buikds a few motors. a few bliwn ones.
He ids having  a jetting glitch on his carbureted Harley, but it still made 155 hp first time on the dyno.. and 135 foot  lbs of torque.
If I could get within 30mph of his single cylinder Harley (on a sohc Honda) I would be happy..

I sold a 40 year old single axle dragster trailer to a guy because I was tired of welding cracks and fixing it. He was going to haul jr dragsters a short distance which would have been OK. A few years later he told me he put 6 harleys on it and towed them to Sturgis. Every year. I didn't believe it would go that far without a failure but it did. lucky boy.

Having passed through the Black Hills recently, I'll say that I did see a number of trailers with bikes on them, Harleys, etc.  But its not as if I saw a fleet of sport bikes, tourers or SOHC's to compete with this "false motorcycling" by trailer.

I dunno.  We'll see what I say about trailering bikes when my knees and back are shot.  Until then I shall remain "hardcore", as they say.

From me, sturgis is about 500 miles, well I just did that and so could probably do it again. Only crappy thing is getting there too tired to do anything the first night. I don't know if I would go to sturgis itself. I think I would rather take a few days and go through the badlands and black hills. THAT would be some nice riding.
