Turn Signal Problem--Solved
« on: August 15, 2011, 01:23:41 PM »
I am having a problem with the turn signals on my 81 CB650C.  The rear signals do not work at all, and the front signals turn on, but do not flash until the engine is at 2500 rpm.  Any ideas?

Stock bulbs or LED's?
bad battery, or at least poorly charged.  check it for a good charge, or charge/replace it if needed.
bad flasher relay?  get a new electronic one for under $10 at your auto store.
were you checking their function with the bike idling?

Assuming your battery/charging system are OK and working, turn signals should work with the bike not even running. I always check all 4 plus taillight, headlight and brake light before I even crank my bike. Some time back, I had problems with my rear turn signal and I finally found it to be one of the black wires had rubbed through the insulation and was grounding out on the fender. Almost drove me crazy til I found it. Old bikes=strange problems.

Figured it out.  My face is red.  The ground clip was not attached under the license plate. :-[

Not to jack your post but I was on my way to work on my 73 cb750 that I picked up a few weeks back when I was almost to work when the bike died!!! It blew the 15 amp fuse...it turned out to be the left rear turn signal wire was crushed between the mount and the fender and it was chafed through...a little electrical tape and all is well!!!

 Glad you figured it out!!!
