Hello all I am trying to get the cam sprocket bolts off and am having trouble when I start to put torque on them to loosen  the sprocket and chain rotate. Do I need to put the bike in gear?

It also looks like one of the cam lobes is pitted and rough picture included not the best will try to get a better one later on. I figure it will be a good excuse to put a 650 cam in :)

Well off to degrease the frame at the carwash any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.

"Do I need to put the bike in gear?"

I think you answered your own question. Use a wire through the cam chain so it doesnt fall down into the cases. Don't forget to change out those rubber pucks. When you put the valve cover back on don't forget the rubber band trick or you will bend valve stems.
