So, I did a plug chop today at about 1/3 throttle steady after a mile or two on my K1 750 ..... result = lean. Did a WOT throttle at about 95 and climbing mph. ( Side note; kinda scary when you coast a 40 yr. old bike @ close to 100 mph, no motor running, no engine braking !! ). Result = lean.
I know it used to be a nice tan color at any speed before and the bike runs good still, so decided to do a fuel chop ! At the house I turned the gas on and tapped each carb bowl to be sure they were full of gas and flipped the retaining clip on #4 carb ( furthest from the petcock ). I emptied the contents of the bowl , which looked full to the proper level, into a small glass jar and marked the fill level with a Sharpie. O.K., got a reference. Emptied the jar and stuck it in my jacket pocket. Went for a ride and tried to repeat the plug-chop conditions, except this time had 3 quick 'chops' to do; kill-switch, clutch AND petcock to 'off'. Not sure if I did it quick enough, but the contents of bowl #4 was about 1/2 compared to the 'static' test of a full bowl...... so, I went straight to the petcock and yes, partially blocked passages ( It's been a year since I cleaned them, rusty tank and all ! )... Fuel chop, WTH. :!
