Eric Buckley (H2Eric) ran 185.2mph on his R1 Yamaha at Elvington on Sunday.
Fastest bike at the event was British land speed record holder Jack Frost who recorded 244mph on his turbo Busa.
Well done Eric and Jack. 8) 8) 8) 8)

Thank you gentlemen for the kind words
I've had a few more mph out of the R1, but that was with a longer (1.4 mile) run in to the speed trap and a smaller rear sprocket, which produced 195.1 mph. I ran with the standard 45T rear  sprocket at the weekend. All I need now is a very strong tail wind, preferably a gale force one to achieve entry into the 200 mph club. I run the bike with a de-restrictor and I normally remove the mirrors, other than that it's as it came out of the showroom.

Cheers
Eric

Elvington airfield is a few miles SE of York, England. It's been used for motor sports for as long as I can remember and I started there in 1976 on a Triton (Triumph engine in a Norton frame). For top speed events (terminal speeds) the course is a mile, occasionally though there are two speed traps, one at the mile and the other at 1.4 miles. The venue is also used for sprints / drag races over the quater mile and recently at these events there has been a speed trap at the end of a half mile.

Superb one Eric - do you think you'll make the 200mph club?
Will you use the CR750 at similar events? Have you ever done Houghton Tower...?

Hi Simon
If I don't make the 200mph club it will not be for the want of trying. The CR750, when it gets finished, will be used for similar speed trials and drag races.
Now then, Houghton Towers. I think I only raced there once, that's probably because I fell off. For those not familiar with that particular venue it's a sprint course in a straight line, but instead of the usual billiard table (pool table for those across the pond) flat airfield this one is His Lordship's driveway and it goes up hill and it's a steep hill at that. Those whose speed is fast enough at the top or are a bit lacking in the brake department will finish up in the court yard of the big mansion at the top of the hill, just pray that someone has had the foresight to open the portcullis.  Hmm, no wonder I only went once. I have some pics somewhere.
This also reminds me of another slightly unusual venue - Bradford Sewage Works. Things could get a bit ripe on a hot day and before you ask, yes,  somebody did finish up in the pooh. How they missed the trees on the way to the settling tank I'll never know, but I guess it was a soft landing. It was a full quarter mile sprint venue along a narrow tree lined road, but the start was up hill, followed by a downhill stretch to the finish line. Really good for top speeds that, but the course was unfortunately lacking in the braking area. Fortuitously though it was up hill (again) and rather steep at that so gravity would help in slowing down. Right at the top of the hill was a 90 degree left-hand bend. Failing to stop at the top of the hill meant only one thing, a trip into the farmers field to the scene of the crash, In a similar fashion to Houghton Towers hopefully somebody had opened that gate, but I do recall one poor chap taking out the wooden gate at a fair rate of knots before finishing up in a heap, hopefully avoiding the cow pats along the way. Not surprisingly this venue is no longer used, probably because it would take forever to fill in all the forms for the Health and Safety brigade.

Cheers
Eric
