On any of these older bikes, but specifically, cb750k0 thru k7 bikes:

On a cross country trip, how do you deal with the 1500 to 2000 mile oil change intervals that these bikes require?

Anyone take their SOHC 4 on a week long ride?  Is there anything that you would prepare for differently given your experience?

Just have the bike in good tune, and you'll want your chain & sprockets in good condition. Make sure to take lube.

I always carried enough of the oil I used (easy to find Castrol anyway) for a change on the road and pulled into a garage to ask if I could use some space....never a problem when they saw I was travelling. Pick up more oil first chance you get.

One experience I'll never forget was in northern California, at a garage in 1976. The owner told me to go around back and drop the oil on the ground, California FCSakes!! Bt the looks of the soil there it was a common occurance. I found a container to drain the oil into. Not everyone is good to our environment.  :P

Go have some fun, wish I could join you.

I have been a service advisor at a number of dealerships. Even with a very tight schedule during the busy season, me or any of my techs rarely had a problem doing a oil change or tires (if we had the tires on hand and it wasnt a harley) for travelers. We all ride and its good bike Karma. Got some pretty good tips and invites to stay over if I was ever riding thru everytime. Go ride and make some new friends.

+1

You'll find a lot of friendly people when traveling on a motorcycle, or in an old VW bus.  I think it's a combination of Karma and envy. ;)

Prepare to have a lot of conversations with fellow riders about how your bike was their first bike, way back in the day.

Just do your oil changes in an Autozone or Carquest parking lot.  They'll recycle your old oil for free.

Bring lots of tools.  They don't take up much space.

People like old bikes and want to help you if you need it, mostly.

Enjoy.
