1969 DID rear rim?
« on: August 23, 2011, 09:05:44 AM »
I have a 11/69 build K0 rear rim with the letters DID stamped by the valve stem.  Is this rim unique to the early bikes?  I would rather sell it and buy another rim for my bobber project than use this rim if it is rare. Thanks guys.

It may be a "rolled" rim which is worth some money. Here's a thread about it http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=64993.msg712704#msg712704
I would keep it for a restoration project if I had it.
Cliff.

I can't speak to the rarity, but my K0 (11/69 build date) has similarly stamped front and rear rims.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Just peeked at a 74 750 and it also is marked the same way in the same place.Think the rarer early ones had a different shape to them.

I have read everything so far, including links, and still don't know the difference between a round rim and a regular one.  And what is this 2 hole 4 hole business with the hub?  Where are these holes?

The holes are through the hub where the cush rubbers go.

The first pic shows a early 750 rolled rim, note the rim radius profile:

Closer look at the rolled rim profile:

Compare to the standard non-rolled rim profile on this 750 K4:

I get it, so I have a rolled rim, with a 2 hole hub.  This would be correct for my 11/69 build date.  I was almost hoping it wasn't correct because I had planned to use it on one of my hardtail bobbers.  Now I have to find another rim.  Thanks guys.
