NEED HELP!!!! Frankenstein My 1978 CB550K (first build!!)

kinda blurry sorry about that.

vin plate

poorly fitting gas tank

rigged f-150 headlight

I recently got a new car and pulled a pair of cheap walmart subs out of it, that i traded for this bike (a $200 value!). The bike runs, albeit it a bit rough, has some fuel flow issues as i figured out earlier, probably bc it has no choke cable :P

The guys at the shop have dubbed it Frankenstein due to the fact that the gas tank is not from a cb550k as far as i can tell (the pegs on the (steering column?) are smaller than the grooves on the tank itself, any help on that front would be greatly appreciated), the headlight from an f-150 rigged up with zip-ties, the red bulb that has been used as taillight, the lack of turn signals, no choke cable, the lack of front brake, lack of air box and filters, and the shi**y paintjob that the "master painter" PO did himself....with house paint.....and a paintbrush. lol

as of now i have torn apart the carbs which true to his word, were recently rebuilt... except for the fact that the carbs were put back together with gorilla glue in place of the gaskets, i ordered some gaskets off of ebay and they should be arriving shortly so i can tear down the rest of the carbs..

so right now the parts list is:

carb gasket kit
Choke Cable
headlight
turn signals
air cleaners
taillight
air box
front tire
gas tank
new seat
front brakes and rotors
rear brake pads
general tune-up (plugs, filters, etc.)

this is just the basics to get it up and running which is all im concerned with for now (im ballin on a budget)

any help, tips, tricks, or suggestions welcome, im new to this and joined so that i could learn from you guys bc i dont know sh*t ;D :P

ALSO!! if anybody knows of a good place to gwt boots for the air cleaner please let me know i am having some trouble finding some, thanks

another call for help! I need to find a complete front brake including the handle, some PO of mine decided he didnt need a front brake, and the CO wants one so any resources or help would be much abliged.

Looks like your kickstand's in a puddle o' somethin'. Bike's a bit snotty as Carpy would say, but very do-able, even if you just want to make a daily driver out of her. Good luck!

The frame pegs you mention for the front tank mounts are likely small because they're missing the rubber pieces.  I checked for ya, and it looks like you could order them from bikebandit.com.

Check out #46 on this link:

I don't see the actual year of your bike, so you'll want to find the correct schematic and get the right part number before you order.

Good luck!

I can't help think of Haloween and the song, "The Monster Mash"...because of the Frankenstein name for your bike!  I think the PO of your bike had the right idea: House paint and a paint brush!!...too many guys here spending too much time, effort, and money on nice paint jobs.

Anyway, on a serious note.  I recently bought the silicone replacement boots to connect the carbs to the air plenum or chamber (whatever you call it) for my '78 CB550K.  They are much softer than the original rubber and seem to be fine so far.  I emailed Paul G. at mybluebike2004@yahoo.com  I believe I found that recommendation and info. somewhere here on the forum.  It was $35 (incl. shipping) for a set of four.  He shipped 'em right away too, which is nice.

Good luck on the project.
