Putter...Putter....Putter....WAAAHHH!!!!
« on: May 08, 2006, 12:58:20 AM »
That is sort of the sound that I'm getting as I accelerate.  :'( The first 1/4 or the throttle is cool (as in good) ;D. But as I start to open it up, I get the putter...putter, falling on it's face sound :o. Then as I hold and accellerate i stort of pass that putter...putter...putter sound and it opens up as it should :-\. I'm going to start the normal tune up process asap >:(. But I'm curious what you guys think, since you all seem to know your #$%* ???. My #$%* neighbor says is because of my four in one exaust, any validation to this? >:( I appreciate your help and I'll follow up with any results for future reference. Thanks a million. :-*

The only thing that I can think of that would cause that is for the needles to be set far too low.

What kind of bike?  How quick are you opening the throttle?  These bikes don't like "snapping" the throttle very much.  They'll all putter putter if you snap it open too fast.  Later models have a fuel pump in the carbs to help diminish this effect & help with the slightly lean jetting.  More info about the bike & any tuning history will help to figure out your problem.

Yeah, that was my question: How quickly are you pulling the throttle open?

All the above.  Plus, do a plug chop on clean plugs while it is doing the problem and tell us what the center electrode insulator on the spark plug looks like.

Thanks for the replies! It's a 73 750. I'm easing my way into the throttle not just dropping the hammer if that helps any. THanks again
