removing the center stand..
« on: September 04, 2011, 05:59:49 AM »
Greetings,

I did a search on removing the center stand but nothing about tips and tricks. Looks pretty straight forward on the cotter pin, bolts etc. Not sure about removing exhaust. Yet.

The spring looks like it is smiling at me and saying " go ahead, make my day". I have a new spring and want to clean and paint the center stand.

Any tricks you old heads can throw my way? I know, some of you remove it. I use mine all the time after seeing the posts/video on this site.  8)

Thanks in advance.

Pivot the center stand until the spring is at its maximum stretch.  Insert coins or washers between the coils of the spring.  Alternate sides.  Pivot stand upwards, spring will fall off.

To install the new spring, bend the spring to one side to open up the coils, insert coins or washers.  Alternate sides.  When spring is long enough, put it into place, remove coins.

Thanks for the tip. It is now removed.

Going to wait until I install new exhaust before I put it back on. It was a fight and not much room account the lower exhaust.

I defiantly don't want to chip, scratch, mark or dent new OEM pipes!  ::)
