rust pinhole
« on: September 12, 2011, 05:30:09 AM »
Howdy,

I've stripped back the paint on the fuel tank on my old kawasaki GT550, to find some lovely bogged up dints haha.

on the front left hand corner of the tank there is some rust, I've caught it out in time to save it, but there is a small pinhole...

The rust is from the outside, the inside is ok. Now for the questions.

Should i drill the hole out a tiny tiny bit to make sure there's no rust around the inside of the pinhole?

Whats the best way to fill the hole? I'm thinking braze it myself, or take it to the local machine shop to have a spot of weld put over it... I'm not keen on the idea of using a glue or putty etc...

POR15 patch.  I used that to seal the many pinholes I had.  I also lined the tank.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
