Thanks to ideas from previous posts, I'm gonna try to make my own Float Bowl Gaskets from O-ring Cordstock for my 1977 CB550f (Keihin 69a carbs). I think most the posts address the more complicated bowls from the CB750's and the 78 550k, so making these should be fairly straightforward.
My question is this: I can get a variety of width from McMaster-Carr. I ordered 1/16" but it seems to thin. So, I thought I'd get opinions before I ordered again. Here's what they offer.
1/16" | 3/32" | 1/8" | 3/16" | 1/4" | 5/16" | 3/8" | 7/16" | 1/2" | 5/8" | 3/4" | 1" | 1.6 mm | 2 mm | 2.4 mm | 3 mm | 3.5 mm | 4 mm | 4.5 mm | 5 mm | 5.7 mm | 6 mm | 6.5 mm | 7 mm | 7.5 mm | 8 mm | 8.5 mm | 9 mm | 10 mm | 11 mm
Fractional Width: 1/32" 1/16" 3/32" 1/8" 3/16" 1/4"
Actual Width: 0.040" 0.070" 0.103" 0.139" 0.210" 0.275"
I ordered Buna-N as the material. I think this will be fine, though the more expensive Viton would be even better.
thanks,
Matthew
P.S. I'm also ordering some hose clamps to replace my worn carb boot clamps. Here's the part number/description for anyone interested. These work great, and stand up to corrosion, and I think they looks swell, too. { 5011T281 316 Ss Worm-Drive Hose & Tube Clamp 1-7/16" To 2" Clamp Id Range, 5/16" Band Width }
