new rim for my 78 cb750
« on: May 09, 2006, 09:16:21 PM »
Well the time has come to put some new rubber on the ol girl and i just hate the size of my rear rim.  limited selection to say the least.  So if I were to respoke it and lace a 17 inch rim on to it what would be the max tire size I could use.  ( don't tell me untill it rubs something)  Has anyone done this?  Do they make a tubless spoke rim?  I live in the US where wide tires tell everyone you have a massive penis.  This is the same reason I wear shoes 4 sizes to large also.  Right now I am running a 160/60/16 on the rear. yes it wore uneven.
These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

Stock rear rim size is 17" so your current rim is not stock. Changing the rim is not going to give you the swingarm clearance to handle a substantially larger wheel . . .How much space do you have for swingarm (or other parts) clearance now with the 160?  Size your new rim to work well and safely with the tire size you want.  There are tubeless spoke designs but from what I can tell they are pretty expensive. Don't know for sure but  I would think with all the Harley sizes available for the 16" rim that you have now that tire selection would be better?

I think you mean new rubber, the rim is the metal bit it fits on. 150 or 160 just wears out much faster in the centre.  As the sides are squeezed together the middle gets higher (you know what I mean and youve probably done it with wife/girlfriend for the same effect)

The 130/16 I just put on my scoot seems to be the "fattest" that a stock width swingarm would accept...

Sorry I was gone for awhile .

My stock rim is 17 inch the tire was a 160/60/17 (duh brain fart when typing)  To answer you question it had (Iwore it out) 1/8 inch clearance from the chain and less to the brake rod.
