This week is all about how losing your project can send you into no-man's land of unfocused difficult living. Still in Germany, and my SOHC is like a billion miles away, check it out!

Sad to see those engines laying on the ground.

Some people have never gotten to go anywhere.
You are lucky to see another country.
Why don't you go outside and meet people and see things, and get away from that computer.

Lucky,

Well, when you put it like that...

The most difficult part about living in Germany is not speaking German, I speak a good amount of Spanish and a whole lot of French - but the science jobs are in Germany. I'm doing better, though, I can order bread at the store (though I'm more than confused when they ask if I want a bag. I think they see that on my face, as they laugh, give me a bag, smile and say Tschuss!)

I enjoy living in another country, it's beautiful here. Every day I make a point out of going outside and moving around town.

And the engines. I'm happy to say that one of them was completely rebuilt. Not that it did any good, as the problem, I think, is in the carburetors. Just discussing it is making me itchy to figure out what the problem is, but I can't. German society is very rule-based, and do-it-yourself projects are, well, almost unheard of. I miss that about the US.

Thanks for taking the time to drop by the blog and read, Lucky.

When you get the chance go to Turkey. It's about a 2 hour commuter flight (with excellent airline food BTW). English happens to be their second language at least for those who choose to learn a second language. We felt a bit of an advantage over German, Spanish, French and any other non english and turkish speaking tourists. And it's a 2-wheeled heaven. Everyone has a scooter of some kind. Some pretty cool one too. Keeways, Javas, etc.

I found this in Greece also, scooters are everywhere. That was my main influence for buying a bike when I got back. I was initially looking for a cool old scooter like a Honda dream but since I have to ride US & state  highways to get anywhere I thought I would need something bigger with better brakes and turn signals, so I ended up with a CB550K. I still look for scooters for just putting around the neighborhood on for fun.

Great read BTW, cherish your time abroad because you will come back eventually. Germany is about a 2 hour flight from some the most awesome places on the planet. Spain, Turkey, Morocco, Lebanon, Egypt, Prague, Croatia, Turkey, Greece, Italy, etc, etc. The US is pretty far and isolated from the rest of the world except Canada (just like us, eh?) and Mexico (pretty dangerous these days).

Duane,

Up until now (Between you and 70CB750) I hadn't given much thought to travelling too far out of what I know - Germany, France, (maybe throw Italy and Spain in there since I speak a big of Spanish, at least I think there is some left rattling around) But this makes me wonder how many other places I could make it.

One strange thing is that a couple we know is heading to Venice for the weekend - which totally blew my mind. I was all "Aristocrats? We know aristocrats?" But really, it's not that far, and if you're established you can do things like that - it's a hell of a lot better than Winnipeg. I've been to Winnipeg. (No offence) Of course I went there in the dead of winter and I almost lost my fingers it was so damned cold. Hopefully I can get a bike and drive to some interesting places. If not, maybe I can get in the old steel bird.
