Spiider (Jeff) sent me his carburetor to have the float tower repaired
Here it is Jeff.
It is stronger than a new one as the material used in the casting pretty much sucks
I didn't have your personal E-mail to send this to you so I hope you dont mind sharing the pictures with the world

That post was pretty beat up already, the work he did was the beautiful weld around the bottom where it meets the body of the carb.

This was done with a Laser system that I use when I repair inserts from plastic injection molds
Its a 125W YAG Pulse system
I use 4043 aluminum rod that's .015 in dia

Lets just say that this is not your dads millermatic 225 mig welder

Yeah Mike I have a miller on the other side of the shop for the bikes and other projects that don't require the delicate stuff

The price for a tower repair is $25.00 each plus shipping

Very fair price. I used Randakk's repair kit for my GL1000 and the price was about $50, although that includes some parts that are reusable and I could repair other carbs for about $30. It's basically a precision machined replacement post and a jig for drilling a hole to locate the post, which is epoxied in place. It was pretty straight forward and worked perfectly.

But I think this method is likely superior over the long run.

I'm sure that welding it like this is a far better repair in the long run.

That looks to be very solid. I'll report more on it once I have the carb back in my hands.

It's on the way back to me as we speak, UPS should be another few days with it providing the Canada customs officers don't take a liking to it.

Can you fix a problem like this? Right now it is "repaired"

with JB Weld. But if that comes apart I'd sure like to have another option...

I don't suppose you'd be able to fix broken float posts that are missing entirely would you? (No post to have welded on there.)
or even better, things like the above post where there's a missing piece of a threaded section; such as an emulsion tube?
