Where Do I Look for Key Information?
« on: October 25, 2011, 07:52:16 PM »
My new (old) 1972 frame and engine has an original seat, but it's locked onto the frame... where do I look for the serial number on the locking mechanism to get a replacement key? Or is there another way to get the seat off?

My seat and ignition keys are the same.  Took the ignition switch off and to a locksmith and had keys made...

Thanks... but I've heard that there are serial numbers, even on the seat locking mechanism, from which you can have a key made.

Can anyone confirm?

My '72 CB500 has the number stamped right on the face of the lock.  Just flip the cover aside and the number should be there.  The number on mine is T9927.  I purchased three replacement keys from a guy on eBay.  They sell them by the number as new or used old stock pre-cut  keys.

The Ignition, seat lock and fork lock all use the same key and the number is  stamped on the face of all three locks.

mjstone beat me to it...

there should be an alpha-numeric number stamped on the keyswitch itself. for both the seat and ignition
like T1234, etc.
that number indicates key type and cut.

once you find it....hondakeys.com
