Cylinder Head Cover - Breather Tube - Leak?
« on: October 30, 2011, 10:19:34 AM »
If I am reading my parts diagram correctly (Cylinder Head Cover), my Tube C Breather seems to be the source of a leak which generates a bit of smoke. It drains in front of rear wheel.

What does that tube drain? Is it normal? Potential solutions if it is a problem? This is on CB500.

A bit of smoke is normal. Mostly water with some drops of oil.

It's a crankcase vent.
It vents out piston ring blow by gasses and any pressure that creates, oil vapors, oil droplets, water vapors, and water condensate.

Newer bikes route all these back to the engine combustion chamber to be burned before releasing it to the lungs of mammals on this earth.
