All that work and $ making it look like a K1, why not BUY a K1. At least then you'll get your 12HP back.

Your the man John,as mentioned before you have a heck of a reference library over there, look forward to your posts  ;)   Sure would love to stroll into a garage someday and see one of those blue Poly girls for sale. Be kind of a rare find I think.   Eric

Thanks for the support Eric!

A Polynesian blue K1 would make a nice catch. ;D

Here's one taken in Japan and looks to be an original as the paint fade & patina looks just right:

I didn't see it mentioned but the seats were a lot different too in addition to the locking mechanism on both the seat and frame. The tank emblems were slightly diff. The 71 was unique in many ways. I would encourage you to find or paint the headlight brackets however. If you do switch the rear chrome bracket, you will need to find the signal fixtures. I have a poly blue 71 as well and now have it in the orig Japanese  frame with no vin label, hole in upper triple and weird kick stand. Still looking for the speed limit h/w.

I would say the most noticeable things are the paint scheme, emblems, rear tail light and gauges although many k2s came with the K1 gauges.

You say that some K2's came with K1 gauges.  Do you mean that some K2's did not have the idiot lights in the
little pod between the handle bars or did they have the pod and the idiot lights in the gauges were left unconnected?

No, no pod or idiot lights. IOW they had K1 gauges and that's it even though the vins were 2000+ and the cosmetics were K2. If you were to do this you would need to extend the wiring from the pod into the bucket to power the oil, neutral, etc lights in the gauges. Buy a K1, they were faster as well. And I should have said 'some' rather than 'many'
