I carry the honda kit, a point file, rag, that's about it. I always wonder why people take the factory  tool kits out of these bikes.

My bikes didn't come with the factory tools. So I carry a multi-bit screw driver, a wrench, socket set, tire irons, extra tube, some wire and a good flashlight.

I add a couple other things for long trips. Bike pump, some spare hardware, chain wax... etc.

The factory tool kit is great! I recently got one w/ a bike purchase and was amazed at how comprehensive it is for such a small package. I did a 9000 mile road trip and carried a fairly wide variety of tools but ended up using that factory toolkit for just about everything. Add a set of feeler guages to the other stuff that's been mentioned here and you're set to do a complete teardown and rebuild.
So much to do, so little time.

Ah. That's what I forgot to mention. Feeler gauges.

Thanks, fatmatt. I forgot to list my feeler guage. I found one for bikes at my local shop, it's very small and handy.

I've added one thing among all the ones you have mentioned & that's a Positive battery cable.I had mine break from vibration & corrosion on the Interstate & had to rig it up to get to the next exit. I finally put on a new rubber battery hold down strap on it so I think I'm OK to remove it now.

Screwdriver - philips to suit headlamp screws, 20cm length electrical wire with alligator clip on each end to use as a patch fix in birds nest inside headlamp, 3 x 15amp fuses..as 2 will blow while I am inside the headlamp, a $2 coin in case I need more fuses...or a coke, sparkplug, sparkplug socket/wrench,..all wrapped in a rag - that's important too.
I don't carry tyre irons as I have intention of fixing a flat that way on the road - I carry an aerosol fill can  - one shot inflate - 70/30 chance it will work...get u to the next town and a proper fix and a new inner tube. Here in NZ it is called a Tyre pando. Talking about it may be akin to starting another oil thread. ;)

I have everything mentioned already plus..............A handy assortment of hammers,50 lb. anvil, various air tools (die grinder,3/8 & 1/2 impact guns, air hammer, etc.,etc.) + of course a portable air compressor.......total sets of all 1/4"--3/8" sockets, wrenchs, etc. of the metric persuasion...........comprehesive set of screwdrivers, mucho variations of pliers and such. I really have to get me a real set of emergency tools though cause I would totally dread having a breakdown on one of the most dependable bikes ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just the OEM 550 tool kit plus a tire gauge. On long cross country trips I've taken socket sets, my impact driver, tire irons, and a few other things I can't remember. I also carry a fused jumper wire I can use to bring battery power to my coils should my ignition switch or one of the connections in the bucket, etc. go bad. This would let me ride home.

along with handy little tools i have a tail/stop and an indicator globe inside a pair of those 35mm film canisters,i have gladwrap wedging them inside the containers,,if you get stopped for a blown globe and can fix it on the spot the cop might let you go is my theory.

Good idea. My tail light is an l.e.d. setup though. I have had an experience when my headlight went out in the middle of the night. That was not fun. Luckily I wasn't too far from home. I will say it was exciting pretending to be "secret agent man" going through traffic.

I am sure I am gonna jinx it, but as off now I have only knife in my pocket.  That's nothing new, there is a knife in my pocket since 3rd grade, but no tools on the Honda.  I have to get something together before I run out of luck.

The other day I wished I had a piece of string - the world without string is a chaos. says a kid's movie - when the throttle line popped right by the handle.  It is hard to yank the throttle puppet style without it  :)

i used to have one of those cheap plastic inline glass fuse holders, the contacts worked their way back and recessed into the plastic and the bike stopped, all i needed was some tin foil to jam into the thing and get it home,i walked up and down the back road i was on hoping to find a cigarette pack or beer can to no avail,,i ended up just breaking the housing and twisting the wires to get home,,,australia is a clean country,, mcguyver would be #$%*ed here!

Factory tool kit under the seat and cell phone in my back pocket.
I'm going to add some fuses since I recently blew one on the road but was able to bypass it and was only a mile away from an auto parts store.
Highly recommended.

I forgot to mention what for me is probably the most essential part of my tool kit: a pair of reading glasses in a very narrow tube. All the tools in the world wouldn't do me any good if I can't see what the heck I'm doing, and at this stage of my existance I can't see sh$t close up without some cheaters.
