Hello everyone,
My name is Brad, I'm 23 years old and living in London UK. Following a recent operation on my shoulder I had a load of free time on my hands and within 24 hours of being sat at home, I had purchased a '76 CB550 on eBay.
It isn't complete, so the shopping list is pretty big, but to build the bike I have in mind none of the missing parts would have been used anyway.
For £400 I got:
A frame (straight and rust-free, a huge selling point with our weather)
Engine (no carbs)
Swingarm
Rear Shocks
Forks
Triple Clamps
4 into 1 exhaust
Wheels in surprisingly good condition
With just the one functioning arm, I spent the last few weeks in the sun polishing up various small parts to pass the time until my next pay day.
I've been a long time reader of the forum and this is my first post. With the knowledge and helpful nature of the community, I have absolutely no fear in tackling this project, this site is invaluable.
Since childhood, I've been involved with motocross so bikes are nothing new to me, this is, however, my first road bike and my first build so I'm hoping to learn a lot from it! The idea is to go along the brat route, but with a tidier rear-end and a lot of attention to the details. The overall look of the bike will be based around the Husqvarna crossers from the same era, think red tank with the polished patch and white fenders. Although I doubt there will be any Husky parts involved, it will certainly be a hat-tip to some of the most sought-after motocross bikes ever made. Any help or advice you can offer is always appreciated!
