« on: September 20, 2012, 01:32:40 PM »
hello, i cant seem to find a replacement o ring for the oil pump cover.  honda doesnt sell it anymore.  ive tried several random o rings that ive found at local stores and didnt have any luck.  its the o ring that sits behind the 3 phillips screws and before the rotor. any suggestions?

They're still available from Honda, but not as what you think. The o-ring for the oil pump cover is sized 46x2mm. Honda's part no is 91305426003. It's been used in CB350F (seal between cylinders and lower case), CB650 (same as CB500/CB550: oil pump cover), GL1000 (water pump). You can still order it as the Goldwing part.

The reason it's not available as the oil pump seal is because Honda just sold the whole oil pump as a unit, and never intended it to come apart- if you look in the Clymer manual, you'll see that they have the original Honda drawing with the pump removed but still in one piece, and then also have a photo of the whole pump taken apart, which Clymer took. In Honda's parts list, the pump is listed as one unit.

Get the Goldwing seal, it'll work fine. I did this a couple of weeks ago with no problem (whole build thread here, if you care: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=110973)

Also available from McMaster-Carr, Part number 4061T178.
It is a 1.737" ID, 1.943" OD 0.103" thick square o-ring.

"The square cross section on these rings retains a seal longer than standard O-rings, especially at higher temperatures and pressures. Interchangeable with AS568A O-rings size for size. Buna-N is for use in oil applications. Temperature range is -30° to +212° F. Durometer hardness is A70. Color is black."

I know this is an old thread but curious about how those o-rings from mcmaster held up.  I have the same leak on my cb550 and am sourcing the o-rings...

found a set that included the 46x2 o-ring on ebay.  we'll see how it looks when it gets here.  it's the only place i've had an oil leak since my rebuild.

This is what I used to replace my leaking oil pump O-ring, 2x46mm 75 durometer 75 Viton, McMaster-Carr # 9263K665.  There is also a Buna-N version in the same size, but I recommend the Viton since it has a higher temperature rating, and tends to retain its shape better under pressure to prevent pre-mature compression and leaking.  They are sold in packs of ten, which is fine since the cost is low (~$15 per pack) and you end up with lots of spares.

do you have to drain the oil to remove that oil pump cover on a CB 550?

Anyone have any spare O rings left over? I figured I'd check here before ordering a pack of 10 from Mcmaster lol

Contact memberr Elan. He sells oil pump rebuild kits for a fair price. Has everything needed.
