That's it Steve, you guys had a car very similar to the XY Falcon, I think it was called a "Meteor" or something similar, it came in a 2 door version, which was cool. The American Falcon in your pic was the same as the first Aussie XL Falcon, then we had the XM, XP, XR, XT, and XW before the mighty XY.

Bobby, you're right, nothing beats the sound of a rumbling V8. I've got another worked 351 Cleveland living in my mother in law's garage, when my father leaves me his old Falcon wagon (1984 model with only 60,000 miles) I'm seriously conidering a marriage of the two............ Cheers, Terry.

Were Mopars ever a thing in Oz? You know a 351 or whatever ford had were one thing, but nothing compared to a 440 six pack or Hemi. No four banger would keep up with real Detroit muscle.

G'Day Mate, yep, we had Chrysler in Oz up until around 1980 when they pulled out and handed the keys to the factory to their Japanese partners from Mitsubishi. I think the biggest locally produced Mopar engine was the 360, but from memory, I think the 340 was quicker? They also had some "Big Block" Mopar engines in imported Chrysler's and Dodge's, but they weren't locally produced.

Would my little Toyota 4 banger beat one in a street light drag? Yep, I'm pretty sure it would for the first couple of hundred yards, I've never raced one, but it'd kick modern Ford and Chev V8's off the line, or at least it did until it was pensioned off (lease expiration) in 2006. Cheers, Terry.

The 340 was a better engine Terry. You guys may have had 440's in bloody huge cars but our small block 351's and the Aussie 308 {in the Torana}, were in much lighter cars and would have blown the doors off your BIG big block cars on any race track {with corners}..... Our little cars were pretty quick....

Thats it Mick, my brother in law still has his SLR5000 replica from the 1980's, with a worked 350, Turbo 350 and 9 inch diff with 411 gears, and that thing bungs out over 600 BHP at the rear wheels. I've only ever driven it one time, and I've never been so frightened in my life.......

My wife just bought one of the uglierst cars made in the past 10 years;
a 2007 Honda Fit Sport.
GOes from 0-60mph in less than 2 minutes,
has 5 wheels,
4 on the ground, one in front of driver

oh, I'm so funny.

Wife says if I hate it so much I shouldn't drive it.
I think that will NOT be a problem as you also
only can pick up ugly women whom want to "play" in this stupid car.

I had a L32 Terry, it was the 253 4 speed SLR, white with blackouts, chevy flat tops, roller rockers edelbrock torquer inlet manifold, massive ported heads {had to port the edelbrock to suit} Specially made extractors to fit the ported head, full Koni suspension and tons of other mods, for a little 253 it was awesome fast and handled well to boot, made a few 308's look ordinary, not many people believed it was a 253....

Wish i still had it...

it was the 253 4 speed SLR,
Was this engine a v6/v8 ?

Fastest car I ever had was a chevy camaro with a 2.8L v6, 5 speed. NOt a monster machine,
but it sounded nice and handled very well,
unless there was a hint of snow, then it was the worse car I ever owned.
We get snow in Vermont, USA so I had to sell it once we had kids.

4.2 liter V8 Michel {253 cubic inch}, all Aussie made, its bigger brother the 5.0 liter 308 is legendary in Aus, much like the 350 chev is to the US....

G'Day Mick, my brother in laws car was an L32 originally, but we decided that "awesome fast" wasn't fast enough, so the 253 got the arse in favour of the worked 350, which, with around 600 BHP is just..... awesome.
