Very nice progress. Getting the itch to put mine on the road a little this year before it sits too long. Mine needs fork seals also, bought them a couple years ago. Please post up any problems or tips you may encounter.

I was told by the local shop that the forks had to come off to change the seals. I'm going to try and fo it taking only the lowers off, we'll see how it goes....

There are many "short cuts" for almost any job on a bike - so one thinks. Only to find out that trying to save some time by doing less disassembly will eventually take more time or be so much harder to accomplish. I have changed fork seals on quite a few different bikes and ALWAYS slid the fork legs out of the triple tree. makes your life so much easier.

You could be correct, but I have done several sets of seals on different bikes without taking the forks off the bike. I'm willing to give it a try, since removing/reinstalling the forks off of this particular bike, is not an easy task. If it doesn't work, it will be a good learning experience.  :-[

What in particular is so difficult in getting the legs out of a CB900F? I have CBXes and they should be very much the same. Front wheel off, triple clamps loose, legs slide right out. If you have air assisted forks, you may have to disconnect the crossover line if there is one.

I really like that silver and blue factory scheme.  The repainted parts look great.
Good luck with reassembly, I would be worried about scrathing something reassembling.  I would have lots of painters tape protecting edges for reassembly.

What all went to the powdercoaters? Did I miss the list or that mentioned earlier?  If so, no need to repeat, just point me that way...  this small tablet is not the friendliest for browsing.

I was worried about just getting the parts back home from the painters, wrapped all of them in thick blankets to protect them in the car. I will be careful re-assembling, painters tape is a good idea. The bike will be a rider, I'm sure it will see it's share of nicks, etc.

I had the calipers powdercoated, as well as the headlight ears, they were rattle canned silver.

Nice 900F. They are appreciating slowly but steadily. Original exhaust is a big plus for value. Many have 4-1s and "pods" and think it makes them faster.... :o

I was kind of joking.... (I am Suzuki biased). My '82 GS1100E makes most other period bikes look slow, by comparison. The GS1000 Cooley is a great all-round bike, it does it all very well, speed, handling and comfort. I could, and have, ride the GS1000S all day. The 900F is a great bike, and fun to ride, speedy and is pretty comfortable, but doesn't do it for me like the GS's.

OK, that makes sense.  The GS's were the bike of the day.  Can we get together, you bring the Suzuki's and I'll bring the Kawasakis?!! [Z1 & H2]   We can switch bikes for a road report, would make for a great day!!

Hey dog,  a co-worker has offered me his 82 Gs1100e and I am, of course, very interested.  What are some things I should be looking out for?  The co-worker is the second owner and the bike is all original except for pods and a 4-1.
If it works good, it looks good...

As long as the bike has never seen a drag strip, you should be good. That 16 valve engine is nearly bullet-proof, the crank is the weakest part of the engine, in '83 it was welded... but again, as long as your not drag racing, it will be fine. Post some pics when you get a chance. I think you'll really like the bike, scary fast, nimble and comfortable enough to cruise all day. I'm not a fan of pods, but if it's properly jetted, it should be fine. The anti-dive forks can be an issue as far as not working well, but if the bike has been cared for, it should be a non-issue. Obviously, look for the easy stuff, chain, tires, suspect oil, etc, but you know all that. Red or champagne?

What's he asking for it?

OK, that makes sense.  The GS's were the bike of the day.

Sorry, I beg to differ. In 1978/79, the Honda CBX was the bike of the day. Even on paper!
After 1981 through 1983 Honda had the CB1100R (just not in the U.S.) which ran circles around everything else.
And in 1984 Honda still held the top spot with the VF1000R.
The GS1000S is a nice bike to look at, but....
Even the big Yamaha gave the Suzi a run for the money.

I worked at a Honda dealership during the CBX and the 750-900-1100F models.  Loved them all, but to me the 900F was the best all around bike of them all.  Such a nice bike.   Yours turned out fantastic.  You should be very proud.  I, too, own a 1979 GS1000S and when I rode it the first time..it reminded me a lot of the 900F but with a bit more grunt.  Love the GS.  Great daily rider.  I have always thought all the F models (not including the 1100) were way under appreciated.  Fine, low mileage bikes are still available for 2-3 grand.  That's a ripping deal for a quality sport bike
