Oil flow through the filter bolt

There are youtube videos of idiots changing the oil filter cartridge and putting the spring in the wrong place.  I wondered what the effect would be.  I looked at the oil filter bolt, and cut up an old oil filter to try and understand where the oil flowed. 

Here are some pics of how oil would flow with the spring in the proper place, when the oil is cold, and when the oil is warmed and thin.

However, I can't figure what happens if the spring is put in the wrong place.  It looks like no oil can get into the filter or to the pressure relief valve until it is warm, and then it filters normally.  Perhaps the pressure relief valve in the pump releases pressure.

That's not how it works. It has nothing to do with temperature.

When I say warmed oil, I mean the viscosity has to be low enough for oil to pass through the paper element, otherwise it will tear the paper.  Every cartridge oil filter has a pressure relief valve for this.

The relief valve is there is case the filter gets thoroughly plugged up: it allows oil to bypass the filter. There is also a relief valve in the oil pump, which does open to limit oil pressure when the oil is cold.

Warning to all of us to check our aftermarket oil bolts.

Bypass filter is not healthy for engine.
Top end oil restrictors will probably be clogged and everything will be ruined.
There is a risk that cam will brake, ripple effect ruin the entire engine. There are posts about it.
Cam broken that continue with chain downwards......

A totalled engine when riding in higher speed a safety issue too.
