CB750 luggage recommendation?
« on: April 07, 2005, 01:24:24 PM »
Hey guys,

What with the gas crunch I have decided to use my bike as my daily driver again (at least for the summer), but the problem is that I need it to now carry a lot of files (more than my usual backpack can hold). I need to put a set of saddle bags on on the bike, can someone recommend a set of hard (or soft) bags that are new that are specifically made for the cb750?  My bike is a 1975 cb750 K. Thanks.

Bates saddlebags (hard - fiberglass) were made for the CB750 and can now be found occasionally on Ebay. No soft bags were specific for the CB750 but I have Marsee 40 litre saddlebags that Ive used for long distance touring and found them ok but they do have a tendency to come unstitched after a while - Ive gone through 2 sets in 3 years so....and they werent cheap!.....choose carefully. With the age of these bikes, I dont think you will find anything new made for them anymore. You may find NOS or used on ebay. Otherwise I would suggest taking measurements of your bike and going to a cycle shop that sells these bags. You may then find something that will fit without too much trouble.

I always used throwover bags in the 70's. They must be available nowadays as it's a fairly universal "fit".
The bonus is that the weight is not so far back.

Hey Zeke,
No I didnt use a saddlebag frame - they are just throwover soft bags....the capacity is ideal but they didnt last long. Marsee claimed I overfilled them but this wasnt the case. Perhaps too heavy (tools/shoes etc) but they werent out of the ordinary. Ive also had Belstaff bags in the past and they were good but not sure if they still make them.
Cheers

Why not fit a rear carrier and then a universal top box, you can get some cheep ones with mounting plates that are removable. I just sold one on ebay a couple of weeks ago for £35.
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

Geeto67,
I've had a set of Willie & Max bags for about 3 yrs and they really hold together. They're synthetic leather so they don't mildew and haven't discolored a bit. They have lots of different styles and sizes, but unfourtunately none of them lock. If you can find or make some bag guards it really helps your new bags wearing on your shocks. Good luck
