Spanish king asks venezuelan Chavez to shut up.
« on: November 10, 2007, 03:15:03 PM »
Today is one of these days that one can be proud to be spanish, something we seldom have the opportunity to be.

During an iberoamerican summit, Chavez called "fascist" the former spanish president, Jose Maria Aznar. Current president, Zapatero, asked Chavez to be respectful, even with people with different opinions, as Aznar was democratically elected. Chavez insisted in insulting him. The spanish king, in an outrage, asked Chavez "why don't you shut up?"

The importance of the gesture is that the spanish king has no power at all. The power lies in the president. The king represents the national unity. For that reason, the official monarchy position in almost any national or international subject has always been "walking on eggs", being very careful with every single speech. In 30 years of democracy, we had never seen the king so enraged. I guess Chavez can get the worst of anybody. What an a$$hole. When I think that my CB750K1 was imported from Venezuela..... (true)

Later, nicaraguan president Ortega insulted spanish companies that invest in his country. The king stood up and left the conference room.

This is brilliant!

A good old-fashioned bust up that doesn't involve our dear Prince Philip!

Raul, on the BBC website they say that your king told him to shut up - rather than asking him.

Is this the Spanish media being polite? Or is the BBC wrong?

Steve, the most accurate translation would be "why don't you shut up?", even when his gesture and hand nonverbal signs were clearly saying "shut the fUk up you a$$hole", that is what he, the president, the minister of international affairs, and 99% of the spanish population would love to tell him. The wording doesn't imply a command, but rather a plea in disgust, like when you are talking by the phone and your friends are talking loud beside you, so you mute the phone and ask them to shut up.

That d1ckhead is becoming dangerous. International community have been dealing with him carefully, using diplomacy trying not to put thing worst as you never know what somebody like him can do. Even when he meant what he said about former spanish prime minister, he was clearly making public his despise against Spain, and he interrupted spanish prime minister all the time. The king's reaction has been front page in every single newspaper in Spain, as it has never seen before, and as a token of how an a$$hole like Chavez can exhaust the patience of the most calm and polite man.

The incident have had many readings in Spain. First, it speaks well about Zapatero, who even when totally oposed to former prime minister Aznar, did speak in favour of him on an international forum. But it is a two-edge knife, as Zapatero has cultivated since he came into power the relationship with leftist south-american countries as Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba, after offending USA not standing when the american flag passed in front of the mainstand during the military parade on National Day (Oct. 12) in 2003, removing the troops from Iraq as soon as he got into the chair, and now getting into trouble also with Morocco and Argelia, something very delicate now as even when it is just tension between neighbours, it can be taken as friction between the muslim and european world. The opposition is using the incident as a weapon against Zapatero, in the sense that "your reap what you saw" by supporting those clowns.

Spanish population publicly supports the king's reaction, something good for him as he was becoming very critiziced lately -the leftist government is spreading the discontent about him as they want Spain to become a republic-. Many people had the "why don't you shut up" sound file on their phones and use it as a ringtone.....

Here you have the video, with english commentaries. At 00:42, the king points his finger to Chavez but the voice is not caught on the microphone. A few secons later is when he tells Chavez to shut up. Check his expression out.

As far as Ortega goes-if he doesn't like the Spanish companies who are investing in his country, they should all pull out.  We'll see how well he develops his economy and provides for his people on his own...  He'll be back begging for capital pretty quickly.

¿Pull out? As long as there is profit to be made, companies will swallow their pride and let Ortega complain while they make money. It is not the governments the ones who rules the world; it is the money, and its commander-in-chief, the corporations.

Nice clip, but making it a favorite ring tone is too funny!  Some people (especially the bully types) need to be told in a firm tone, followed quickly by a swift kick in the arse.

Chavez is a victimist. He is pretending the king told him to shut up like denying his freedom of speech. But what the king was asking him was to shut up so Zapatero could speak. Chavez seems to pretend that his freedom of speech is above anybody else's. What a moron.

Wanna bet Chavez tries nationalizing Spanish assets in his little third-world republic?

In the old days, little no-count rulers of little no-count countries would get backed by the Soviet Union; at great cost, of course.  What will Chavez do when he discovers that he's alienating everyone whose capital and support he needs; and there is no one to sell his soul/country to?
