« on: May 20, 2008, 05:37:08 AM »
i was told this wheel was off a cb750.  its front rotor is the same size as my other cb750's. but it is an 18".  Is this wheel off a automatic maybe?

According to the fiche for a 1976 CB750k there is both a 19" and an 18" on offer.

not an auto wheel - auto wheels are alloy, that sucker is steel.

Despite what the fiche says, I have never seen an 18" front wheel on a cb750 that was stock. It is certainly possible but I can;t imagine that is common.

Looks like it will work - the only issue would be the speedo drive.  If it's built for a 19" wheel, it will be off by a bit.

Anyone can lace a different sized rim to the hub - people put 16" Harley rims on the rears all the time.

it was a d.i.d. wheel. pretty sure it was factory.  i wonder if it was a later model of something.  did the 69 also have 19 inch?

yup thats it. definitely a sandcast wheel.   ;D

what are the effects of smaller front wheel?- is the difference between 18 and 19 enough that it was offered as an option to pick one or the other?

Maybe someone will chime in with some truth to the myth that 18" was an option.  maybe the prototype had a 18", or maybe the CR?   ;)

None of the 500/550s or 750s came with an 18" front. The 400F did. That's a rim someone laced later.

I use an 18' on the front of a 550. It quickens the steering somewhat but requires a speedo drive from a 400 for the speedo to read correctly.

That's right, the automatics had 19" aluminum wheels, same as the 75-76 GL1000.  Quite nice, actually, looks like a Borrani.

A smaller front wheel allows for quicker turn-in.  A lot of the European bikes from the 70s had 18 inch front wheels... It would actually make a great wheel for a cafe racer, which, after all, was a Euro thing originally.

got to admire your fearless flaunting of motorcycle standards running an 18 foot front wheel.
