tank question pics added
« on: September 08, 2008, 07:02:47 PM »
Do any of you guys know weather this 78 k tank will work on my 74 k. I got it off a parts bike and it mounts up perfect with a little work. the 78 k tank only has one line from the petcock were as the 74 k has 2. It seems to me like all I need is one line of gas to the carbs or is there more to it I don't know about?

Here are some picks of the tank. you cant see it but there is a small hole on top of the tank under the cover. It looks like it was drilled there. does anyone know anything about this? Any other 78 cb750 k guys have this hole in there tank? If you were sitting on the bike the hole is on the left side, up and to the left of the cover bolt. I found it by looking threw the stem on the bottom of the tank. you can see it in the second pic. What does this do?

You should be able to add a "T" in the fuel line to feed the carbs.  If you're using 74 carbs, they're going to need 2 lines.

I think the little hole is a drain for any spilled fuel.  I'll have to look at a tank to make sure, but you should have a hose attached to the stem on the bottom that empties under the bike.

The 78 tank is going to be about 1 1/2" longer so you'll have to make the seat work somehow.

just a guess......... is that hole a drain so petrol/rain etc doesn't sit there
as long as your petcock flows enough a T fitting should do the trick

Dusty thanks for the info I would appreciate you looking for me.

Scunny which hole? The one on the top would allow dirt and water and other garbage into the tank. that cant be good.

Turn the tank over an and look in the tunnel.  You'll find a nipple for a hose. the other end of that nipple is the well drain on top.  If you allow the well to fill with water, it goes into the tank through the vent hole in the gas cap.  Water in the gas in not good.
